hello everybody at 6GC im Bdub. my car is 90 celica gts with a motor out of a wrecked 95 vert (sad). i just gotten this motor rebuilt and bored and i've noticed since i put it all back together that it sounds like a diesel when its cold. it goes away when its warm so its not the bottom end. maybe a valve out of adjustment?

i have the same problem with my fresh motor too. only way to check is to take the valve cover off with a 32mm socket (or huge wrench) and check the clearances. the shims are expensive haha
my mechanic did do the clearances when we put every thing together. i can live with it just as long as it doesnt screw up my motor in the long run.

S series engines make alot of nosie especialy with cold oil, its valve tick and loud injectors, its not an issue thats just how they run!
definatly double check your valve clearances. when i rebuilt my 5S it was just as loud. i was sure my valves were in spec, but once i checks some ov them were .020 loose. thats alot! im going to pull the engine when i get teh car painted so ill fix it then.
