Emissions w/ turbo - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #68430 7 posts Started by elvasoshexai
Hi all,

so this is the first time i've done emissions (ontario canada) since i turboed my car and apparently i did not pass emissions.

i have a magnaflow hi-flo cat, i replaced spark plugs/wires < 1000km, fresh tank of 94 octane...

here are my results:

..................40km/h......................curb idle........
............limit....reading..result..limit..reading..result
HC ppm..66........111.....fail.....150....100....pass
CO%......0.37....0.18....pass...0.7......0.22..pass
NO ppm..0505......5.......pass............................
.............rpm.......2075..valid..rpm.....789...valid
...........dilution..13.26..valid..dilution..14.20..valid

does anybody have any ideas how to correct this? is it a simple adjustment on the emanage ultimate? is there a way to measure it to make sure you pass before i retest?

i don't want to end up, retesting, failing again, fixing something else, retesting again, fail, etc etc etc... as it will get $$$ fast

any help is greatly appreciated!!!

whats your fuel ratio during part throttle like?
idle?

the easiest way to pass, would be to install a set of stock injectors, and map sensor, and use the 2nd map on the ultimate, with everything zero'd out, to just go for the test. the only problem would come if your tester decides he wants to boost..lol

here are the ratios:
@ idle (cold start): high 10 - low 12
@ part throttle (cold): 13-14

@ idle (warmed up): 13-14
@ part throttle (warmed up): 14-15

but i made sure the car was warmed up before the test...

i've gotten suggestions that maybe a lower octane would help (usually run 94, maybe 91 or 89 as long as you don't boost?).. dunno if that's a good idea

you have a high hydrocarbon reading which basically means you have unburnt fuel. Which makes sense because your at 14-15 stoich at part throttle when its warm.

you can try to lean out your fuel mixture under part throttle, but you risk increasing your NOx ppm. your already on the edge of Nox reading.
go back to stock

Simple suggestion and one that is often overlooked when HC is high and the other readings are acceptable: make sure your converter is hot. Drive the car around for half an hour, roll it on the freeway for sustained high speeds.

The other usual suspect in high HC is your ignition system. Consider cap and rotor replacement, or at least cleaning. Check your spark plug condition; see if there's an oil leak which could foul them, or if they're wet with unburnt fuel to point to another issue. And of course an oil change never hurts.
Should have slipped they guy a $50.
