Compression Test ST202 - 6G Celicas Forums

I should provide a "cylinder compression test" on my celica ST202 year 1999 (3SGE engine)

could someone give me the "correct standard results" please ?
the compression ratio is 11.0 for the beams and 10.3 for the 3gen

still waiting for the guys on the BEAMS site for translation of the BEAMS engine, however 3gen is 192psi[new], so I guess around 205psi for the beams

what are you basing that on? the lowest is 156psi (minimum)< as stated in the 3sge engine manual wink.gif

3gen 3S-GE is 192psi[new]

If the engine has 37,000 miles truthful and is in good condition

how many psi should have if he really 37,000 miles?
my guess would be close to new, maybe around the ~180 mark? Its quite easy to do a compression test if you want the real figures. I can pm you a page reference if you want to do it.

I was looking at different fuel options since in CA it is too expensive to manufacture 93 octane fuel. I was looking at what gas to match up with 13.5:1 compression ratio forged pistons. Taking a look at around the highest octane california carries is 91 octane= 95 Ron. Which isnt even close to the recommended 4th gen 3sge beams 94 octane = 100 Ron fuel.

And then I was thinking about exporting 93 octane from another state to CA. For Daily Driving. But then I came across a place called VP Racing Fuels. http://www.vpracingfuels.com/page469666.html

If im running on the street and on the track which one should I get. the Unleaded C10 96 octane fuel or the Unleaded/oxgynated VP100 (aka StreetBlaze 100) 96 octane fuel. The c10 is a clear color gas and the vp100 is a orange colored gas. Im going to call today to see how much the prices are.

I do not want to run 91 octane on the beams for fear of engine knocking and damage to the internals. I plan on getting a complete engine rebuild and tune with a c-one ecu to run on 96 octane. But If I want to use 91 octane fuel for daily driving can I baby the engine and still have the ecu tuned for running 96 octane, or do I have to retard the timing before I start to use 91 octane for dd

get ready for a heart attack. VP pump stations are about 6.50 a gallon for 100 octane

ahh haha ya i know. But if my celica becomes my weekend/fun spirited driving machines for the weekend then I wont be driving it everyday. But no one has answered my question yet. ANYBODY? c'mon I know somebody has to know

i think they quoted me $450 for a 55 gallon drum out the door with taxes and all. Then i guess you can reuse the same drum to get refills. I was like wow! Atleast thats what i think they said, ill have to confirm tomorrow...

i have a 55 gallon drum of sunoco 108, it cost me 437$ shipped from kuwait to west coast of canada
cams and ignition timing can let you run higher compression on lower octane fuels. dynamic compression means alot more than your static compression. with vvt tuning, the right cams, the right fuel and timing maps you can get away with 91 octane on some pretty high compression. 2zzge runs 11.5:1 on 91 without problems, they've been built higher CR than that and run 93 octane.

ya but heres the thing! Since the 4th gen 3sge was not brought to the U.S. and was only available in Japan In order for the engine to run at its full 197hp potential it needs a minimum 100Ron = 94 Octane. the beams engine does not have knock sensor so running 91 octane is not acceptable, but no one has yet to answer my question>>.>> Can I use 91 octane for daily driving, as long as I keep the revs under 4,000 rpm,dont run my car fast and slightly retard the timing, or will that damage my engine while having a 13.5:1 compression ratio engine?? >>>>

I know that the USDM integra type r has compression ration of 10.6:1 and the jdm 98 spec has 11.5:1 compression ratio.

the usdm of course has an electornic knock sensor and the jdm uses 94 octane only, while the usdm b18c5 engine has a knock sensor, uses 91 octane and looses about 3 hp. just thought i should throw that out there...

grrr mad.gif I guess nobody knows the answer to my question. I'll just have to go to the beams owner group and ask the man himself that makes the custom beams engine parts about using 91 octane on 13.5:1 compression engine.

we have both 3sge engines over here and our fuel (Ron 91 95 98) all are regularly available. if you where running the standard compression you could run 91ron, but since you want to run a crazy 13.5:1 CR I wouldn't run anything lower than 98, in fact I dont know if that'll be safe kindasad.gif

well since i plan on doing a complete engine rebuild I would be babying the engine for the first 2,000 miles. and the 91 ron is actually 91 octane=95 Ron.

what you see on the pump is the average of the two numbers. for example, my geo takes 91 RON in japan (7afe) and the manual says 91 octane and so i was like 'wtf?' but then i looked into the issue and saw that 'oh thats just 87 octane here'.
