It's an easy replacement, should be less than $30 for the mast from your dealer. Pull the antenna and motor, then remove the antenna mast. Work it up and down and you should be able to tell if the strap has broken or not. If not, likely a motor issue. However, 15-year-old vinyl is prone to snapping.
ok but my antenna goes up and down. I mean it goes all the way up and you still hear the motor moving it. when i try to put it down i need to push it a little bit. it only ahs one belt right?

>HI
Slightly off your topic, but my antenna goes up once the key gets turned and the only way to retract it is to switch the engine off,
Does it sound like the previous owner hasn't connected a wire correctly to the Head unit?
is it on radio or on cd player?
