remote start on manual - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #6866 26 posts Started by Cormudgen
Ok,

I'm about to purchase an alarm/keyless entry and would like to use remote start as well. If i ever park on a hill I tend to leave the car in gear so it won't roll. If I park on flat ground I just leave it in neutral and pull up the ebrake. What I am wondering is if our car has a "neutral safety switch". I have heard some cars have this and it basicaly wont allow the remote start to work unless the car is in neutral. I know that if I dindt use this some of my friends would probly be playing with my keys one day and start it while its in gear. If we dont have a neutral saftey switch I wont even use this function. I would love to be able to get my heater going in the mornings though during the winter. Does anyone recomend a certian model of alarm/remote start for manual cars. Also does anyone have a diagram for our car of how to hook it up? including what wires I need to tap into for keyless entry and ignition. I have installed an alarm before but it didnt have remote start and I dindt use the keyless entry b/c i had manul door locks and didnt want to install actuators. Any help would be appreciated.
I've got a Autopage RS650 alarm with remote start on my car, and it's got a custom safety switch that I have to push in every time I plan on remote starting my car, because the five speed versions of our cars don't have a neutral safety switch.

If you don't want to do that, you can buy a remote start system that's made for a five speed.

I have a wiring diagram that's available here and will be of some help. However, your wiring colors in your car may be different, so always test your wires with a multimeter, and be sure not to test any wires with a test light or wires that are surrounded in yellow tape or tubing, as these are air bag wires. Also, on that diagram, a few of those connections are now hooked up to better locations. Let me know if you've got more questions. >smile.gif>

man, i had my hopes up too. i really dont see it being worth the extra expense if you have to "set it up" for remote start when you leave the car. i'm not sure if i think its worth it or not yet. i'll have to think about it somemore. does anyone have one of these alarms for sale? what about just a alarm /keyless entry?

The 'safety switch' can be easily defeated. It's located under the clutch pedal. All you do is make the 2 wires touch each other(using a butt connector, or a piece of wire between the plug so it can be undone easily).
I've had mine this way for a long time(don't have remote start, but I can start the car by reaching through the window and cranking it). Just be sure you leave it in neutral or you'll damage the transmission every time you start it.

im running a compustar remote 2way alarm and i dont have a neutral switch but to activate remote start what i have to do is park the car dont step on brake, pull up hand brake and remove key from ignition and the car is still running after you get out of the car and it shuts down after 5 secs and thats how i start my remote start

ya i dont do it on uphills or regular i just left my remote start to waste
im gonna upgrade to a better alarm system that has 1 mile range which is pretty damn good !!!

i have never parked in first gear except when on a steep hill. im always scared i will forget at let the clutch out and hit the car in front of me. i always park in neutral and dont even think about it now.
Hey guys, which is a good reasonable Car Alarm + Remote Starter, i am also looking to have a push button start also and hence make the key obsolete... >tongue.gif>

I have an LCD pager, I hate it. I just wanted the extra features. I'm trying to find a relay for my ungo that rolls up the windows and can roll them down too. I also want one that closes my sunroof (id use the module i already have) I can turn my neon on and off and all types of stuff. I need to get the basics done before i do alarm tuning.

i am awesome
i found out today when i bought my remote start that it is illegal to put remote start on 5speed bc it can be in gear and hit soembody. but im doing it anyway just bc i ALWAYS leave it in neutral when i park

i have a green button on my key, along with the lock and unlock button...wonder what is it used for....can i use it to have a remote start
i just had a remote start/alarm put on my car galaxy 5000 i think it's a 2 way with a lcd pager. looks like the one on the link posted earlier. i love it!!!! my clutch is bypassed too, but you have to engage it and pull up the ebrake before you shut the car off then the engine will stay running until you get out and shut the driver's door, that's so there's no way possible you could have left the car in gear. had a freind do it for pretty cheap and unless you plan on doing a thorough job and soldering all joints and hiding all wires i think it's the best route.
How much did it cost you...equipment and fitting
it cost me 70 bucks for the remote start alone. i installed it myself with minor problems. got all probs resolved and working good. i also installed keyless entry which was 50 bucks for the unit. has good range, around 500 ft. i am totally happy with the results
