key stuck won't start shifts without brake please help - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #68732 9 posts Started by dliverance
ok , i just bought a 94 celica. it's an automatic gt. i drove it a few times and it started with no problem. but the other night when i got to my gf's house and tried to start it again it wouldn't budge. at first i thought it was either the shift lock, ignition, neutral safety switch, fuse, or starter.it so far has been neither. i changed the entire shifter assembly and plugs.nothing. now the car wont let me have my key back unless i remove a terminal from the battery. and when i try to start it the clock goes dim but it wont start. I also ran a jumper from the 12v positive on the battery to the starter and it will crank but not run. and yes i had the key in the on position. does anyone have a clue what might be going on? i also checked the trans. fluid level and its fine.
ok. does anyone know if the neutral safety switch is mounted on the floor shifter or on the tranny. because i'm looking at pics of neutral safety switches and it doesn't look like any component in the shifter mech. that i already changed.
can someone please help. I'm running low on time before i lose this car.i changed the neutral safety switch at the tranny. and now the reverse lights come on when i put it in reverse but it still won't start. and the radio keeps its channels when i remove the battery. umm the car still switches thru gears without depressing the brakes, and i ran a jumper to the starter while the car was in reverse and the car didn't move so it seems like the starter is not turning the flywheel.

Does the car hold charge? Maybe bad ground or something? Just an idea though...

"God created turbo lag to give V8's a chance"
it ended up being the supressor in the distributor.somehow part of the wire got exposed and it just melted. i have to go to the junkyard or the dealership tomorrow and replace it. but for now i have it temporarily running but i'm not gonna grive it.

Why would you lose the car?

Glad you got it all figured out.

i would have lost it because it was not yet registered to me and there was no license plate on it. and if the code enforcement would have seen that, they would give me a week before they towed it away.
