Right now im working on my after-deployment shopping list, and am considering getting fensports lightweight crank pulley, along with a lightweight flywheel. Never had experiances with lightweight pulleys, so i was wondering what can i expect. Im sure the normal, run of the mill response like " smoother revs" or something, but what about the negatives. Such as balancing, or just even others who run them on the 3sgte.

light flywheels are great. nobody makes the correct style lightweight pulley. food for thought.

i was tossing this idea up heaps a while ago as my harmonic balancer was on the way out (outer and inner rings were becomming seperated from the rubber)

in the end i decided to go with a factory item because:

It was easier and just as cheap for a new OE item
If a multi billion doller company with thousands of engineers decided that it needed it then i should keep it, especially when it comes to harmonics and vibrations.

However if another company made a lightweight one that was a proper balancer (like factory) not just a solid pulley (like fennies one) then assuming the price was reasonable i would have got that. Im pretty sure that a company makes one for an mr2, but they arnt suitable as it would overspin your power steering pump (unless you got a bigger pulley for that)

Lightweight crank pulley......dont see the point, i doubt very much it has any effect what so ever on the ability of the engine to spin...better off removing the air con which will cost you nothing more than a new belt instead of wasting £119 on a light weight pulley that will offer nothing.

Thanks for the thoughts. Yea...lol, im still undecided on it all. I might just get it and install it and see what changes. If i dont like it, im switching back to the stocker in an instant.

On a side note though, can these things cause much damage to an engine, preferebly the 3s series?

Well without a harmonic balancer/dampner you can cause problems due to excess vibrations. You can also lose power because of parasitic vibrations.
