Anyone looking for a ST205 in Canada? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #69330 24 posts Started by azian_advanced
so.... I've been keeping track of many 6th gen GT-Fours that have already landed in Canada. Many of them have already sold (Actually I'm kinda surprised how many have not registered and introduced themselves here..) while many of them are still waiting to be bought. There are already a number of them I've saved on my PC, and many more still in Japan. So if you're in Canada and are looking for one, then maybe I can help. just post some of the features or specs the car requires, and I can perhaps direct you to a company who can help or has what you're looking for.

>>Note: I am NOT a dealer, importer, broker or salesperson.. nor do I represent any company or business in any way. i'm just an enthusiast offering my help to those who are potentially looking to get their dream car.>>

I know there is at least one ST205 sold in Quebec.

But, because of a new law, all RHD cars cannot be registered at the SAAQ since May 2009. So, no more ST205 for us (Quebec) until this law is removed (it's a 6 months trial law).

Now, you can buy a RHD car, but you simply cannot have it registered and drive it legally.

Sad story...
But you could purchase it and do a LHD conversion.

i was thinking about it but, switching steering wheel position seems like a pain in the a$$
while essentially JDM cars are banned for being RHD, a LHD conversion will not make it legal. Only a valid VIN will make it legal but of course that's impossible since only North American cars came with VINs and the GT-Four was never offerred here.

you could cut and weld the numbers, but thats against the law and if caught then more trouble for you kindasad.gif

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

Yea I've heard about this. Such BS and I hope they won't follow with a similar law in other provinces. Do they seriously think this is gonna help Domestic car sales? No one is gonna buy that garbage.

I hear ya; I'm hoping to get my hands on one before that happens. I would have had one this year for sure, but I just purchased a house and then got married... so the cash flow was tapped. tongue.gif

I'm looking for one lol I've found a few places in Montreal i'm gona check on Thursdy..

i saw on today at a dealer but the roof was all damaged from shipping, he says that most imported vehicles have roof damage...hard to believe...

anyway, if you can message me some places thatyou know of selling GT4s that'd be great...

BYTHEWAY,

how do you know if the car is just a normal st205 or an st205 WRC?

is it the spoiler?

b/c the one i saw today did not have the spoiler raisers or side skirts/rear spats...

i've seen pics online of st205s with the wing raisers, side skirts and rear spats...
WRC's have a different shape to the exhaust manifold and you can see a portion of the anti-lag components near the timing belt side.. if you compare engine pics of a WRC & non-WRC you can spot them. exterior-wise, WRC's have the hood spoiler and raised spoiler blocks. there are other things which you won't be able to see like improved door pillar bracing, steel turbine blades & hub, intercooler sprayer behind the bumper reinforcement bar, anti-lag components, and a few others which i can't think of right now.

are you looking for a WRC specifically? there are a few near Montreal.

How much do they (st205's) go for?

I've been out of the celica game for a while but if I can sell my Audi I'd love to pick up another celica, and it'd be awesome to have the car I wanted for the longest time.

One's in Canada seem to go for 9000-10000 USD

i got one st-205, and i'm waiting until the end of October to decide if i change the steering side or i sold to someone else..... i'm living in Montréal area

they cost me about 12k$ CAD, i do all the process by my self ( purchase, import, etc etc), i want specific model...white , no roof, with abs, with 8 speaker radio, and a real wrc....so i doo all the stuff

to answer the question.... if you try to regist yours car, the SAAQ ask you if the steering was on the left or the right side... so answer left and do the conversion will be a option, since they ask you to have a mecanic evaluation of the car anyway before put on the road.....but i hope drive it with the steering on the right side.... until this i doo all the process to be legal, (front and rear reflector on side, DOT headlamp, sw on the clutch, DRL, DOT tires etc etc...)

DWS

p.s. mine is here now is on my driveway....and it's hard to see the car evrey morning and don't drive it...

man that sucks. i felt the same way when i bought my car it sat in my backyard for 7 months. i made it my personal study space with my book on the steering wheel, the seat moved all the way back and my writing pad on my knees.

it sucks to have to sell it especially after doing all the work to find it and import it.

bumping an old thread..
i'm curious how many members in Canada are actually considering importing their own? i documented every step of the import process for mine and was thinking of making a how-to if there are enough interests. this isn't limited to the 6gc but for any car imported from asia that's 15 years old or older.

hmmm. maybe I will trade in my Fit for one of those next year.

Is it easier to import a car to the USA from Canada than it would be from say Japan?

I think it still falls victim to certain things, like DOT stamping on headlights, taillights, tires, etc. Probably easier, yes, but it would still be difficult. That doesn't mean I'm not hopeful that somebody will do it. smile.gif

Couldn't you just buy one from the owner and register it in the states as buying from up north? Or have a Canadian drive down here to sell and buy the person a ticket back. Everyway is wrong lol! I was very close to doing the second option but decided against it.
thought you might like to know that thier are 3 posted on kijiji toronto today

If its after '89 but before '96 and compiles with FMVSS then it can be imported under Import Eligibility Number VSA-80
(b) All passenger cars manufactured on or after September 1, 1989, and before September 1, 1996, that, as originally manufactured, are equipped with an automatic restraint system that complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208;
To prove it conforms you'd need a letter from Toyota stating so. Most likely they'll say the speedometer and headlights do not, which is okay.
Next you have to find a legally registered importer.
Then you just gotta get it (US) titled, registered, and tagged; which is the hard part since DMV people like to be-

If you're importing it from Canada everything is about the same, except for you'd get a specific importation form from customs for Canada and check box 2B (whilst still providing that letter from Toyota)

None of this means you'll succeed in getting it here as it'd be at the discretion of multiple people but it'd be worth the try if you wanted to legally import and drive one.
