The Samsung hands down. But I'd buy from NewEgg and not ebay.

new egg is definitely a place to get good bargains. i got a 2 tb hd for 200 bucks. nothing wrong with ebay as long as the seller is reputable. also u can get 8% cashback with microsoft bing cashback. it was 30% at one point. i got an acer aspire one brand new for $200 ($100 off) and a 47' vizio lcd tv (also new) for $650. ($200 off)
i see vizio all the time but im still skeptical about the brand.

so the samsung t240 hdtv lcd monitor is good enough? ill check new egg

Good enough for what?

Vizio uses reject parts from the major manufacturers. In essence, they use the pars that weren't good enough to go into a Panasonic, Sony etc.

We use Vizio TVs at work. They're alright for very minimal stuff like waiting room TV usage.

I picked up that TV from the local Fry's Electronics for $200 cheaper than what's listed online. Using it as both a TV and a monitor and I love it! The only gripe I have about it is that the base stand it comes with sucks big time. It'd be best to pick up a wall-mount from Ebay for like $40.

They're decent, definitely okay for a bargain. My mom used to have a 42" plasma from them. The only problem was that the speakers started buzzing a few months after it was purchased, and it increased with volume. The display was alright, but she got a Panasonic after and it was a ridiculous improvement, even in standard TV.

I have a 42'' Panasonic plasma 1080p, it's delicious.

And yes it should be fine for everyday TV use. It's basically a TV - they just call it a monitor.

Viera? That's the one she has now. It's pretty damn nice indeed.

Get the Walmart one if you can't wait. A TV is a TV, unless u can get a plasma.
I'm waiting for tomorrow cuz its still holiday.

the samsung lcd monitor's resolution is 1080p while most of the lcd tv's of the same size have only 720p which is good already but it seems that the monitor is cheaper.

would it be ok to get a refurbished unit?

k i gotta back up my vizio cuz yall haters lol

i can't find any flaws in mine. its a full 1080p lcd 47'. has vga input for my computer, 4 hdmi, a few component and composite inputs, i run my audio to 2 dj speakers so no problem there.

i got it BRAND NEW for $650. i believe it retails for a couple hundred more at costco, and competitors of the same size go for at least twice that. if you're in the market to compare tvs DONT simply go by what you see on the display floor without actually playing around with them. remember that retail channels will tweak the color, contrast, and brightness of their tvs to make the more expensive ones look better and the cheaper ones look worse (ive even seen best buy run their top of the line with hdmi and their lower ones with normal composite so of course the hdmi will look better). mine has been running perfect for almost a year now and i usually have it on at least 4 hours a day. also got a no name wall bracket off of ebay for 30 bucks.

on the refurb question. i would NOT get a refurbished unit.
