My outlaw days are over now! I got caught by "The Man". I got a huge ticket this weekend for driving with suspended tags for failing to pass emissions for the past year.
Emissions have been outsourced to a 3rd party company here in Maryland and they no longer do the dynometer (tailpipe) test for 1997 and newer cars. They take the readings from the OBDII connector. Since I have a JDM 3S-GTE ECU it wont work. They want me to pay $450 every two years for a waiver or sell my car. I just did the swap and I love my car like you all do.
I spoke with the guru of wiring (Doc Tweek) back in April he recommended a 2AZ ECU. That might be my only option but Im looking for others. I know there have to be some way to pass the OBDII emissions test and not have any performance loss. I read in some forum that some guy suggested using a OBD/ECU Simulator. (http://www.obd2cables.com/products/obdii-equipment/simulators/) Not too sure about that.
Is anyone out there from Maryland with a 1997 and up JDM swap? Any other states like this too?
Thanks
