Well, for one, it's not my car. and two, i will be fixing it at another persons house. and i'm not lying to him.. he never asked.. that's if i do do this.

And it's my only option, i'm broke, my car won't sell, i need a car. It sucks, yeah i know, but i'm ok with projects if i'm even allowed to do them. My dad is just a dick

Your dad isn't a dick when he pays for the house you live in, or puts food on the table. Just because you don't always agree with him doesn't make him a bad guy. Show some respect at least.

you must realize that's the only thing he pays for(rarely pays for food). I pay for anything I want. The clothes on my back, the computer I am using, the internet i'm surfing(lol), the insurence, the car, gas, etc. All payed for by me. I'm 17 without a job.. I think I do a fair job. He could atleast let me have this. Wether he lieks it or not, if not, i'll sell the Celica, and I'll buy the saturn off him for $400, sell it, and just not have a car, instead squat on a few grand or whatever I make (he tries to sell a 95 saturn sl2 of his to me for $400 all the time, i hate saturns)

I hate to say this, but did you pay for the Celica? No matter what else you pay for, if he paid for it and it's in his name, it's his call. If you're paying insurance and it's in your name, then it's your property and, and I guess should be considered a gift, therefore you can do with it what you please.

My celica is in my name. Always has been. I signed the title. But he is my father, so he can even still technically "take it away".. which is bull****. But he can't legally sell it.

No, that's the point. He might be able to kick you out of his house, but if the Celica is in your name, you're paying insurance on it, and the insurance itself is in your name, then he should have no say over it.

His dad does have a say. If the Celica is parked in his dads garage way or on his property then he can say something bout it. Superaison, I would keep your Celica and just repair it. You can always part what you can and sell it to a junk yard too, but I don't think that would be worth it.

Then drive it until it's off his property, my point is, if he paid for it in its entirety, then it should not matter, AFAIK.

Insurence is in his name, but i pay the difference. I give him $800 a year to be on it with my Celi.

not trying to be mean, but it sounds like you know what you want... so go for it... plenty of people including myself have told you that this may not be the best trade... and you are going behind your dad's back.... so why ask questions if you are going to send everyone a some rebuttal?

Well, not entirely.

Anyway, It's an equal trade at the moment. Non running car for a non running car, and I told my dad i'm trading my car for a 95 ST hatchback.. He said "Ok"..

Do yourself a favour, buy a cheap car that runs, no matter what it is, enough to get you from A to B, save up and buy yourself a running Celica in better condition when you can afford to.

It might not be your prefered idea, but as soon as you start playing your parents its bad news...if they find out and you destroy their trust in you it could make things very uncomfortable for you if you ever need them for anything else they might just tell you to take a hike. Swapping one ****ed up Celica for another seems like a crazy waste of time.

Why would I buy a honda? Well, 99% of my friends that fix cars, only fix hondas (and do **** with them).. So why not? They will do work I want done free (within reason).

But my toyota is just a huge project nobody wants. I think i'm gonna fix and sell. Then idk. I love celica's, I wanted a way to get another celica, but I guess that seems to be too big of an issue. Imo, it's not.

If you want a honda, sell your celica, save on insurance for a while and buy a crappy honda.

This is what i'm doing.

Plan A.)

Have a friend replace my headgasket, see if car runs.. If OK.. then;
See if dad lets me keep it(you know how if u actually put someone on the spot they have a different outcome?), if not, see if he atleast lets me drives it till it sells

Plan A2.)
Replace headgasket. If it don't work;
Trade that guy, buy an engine and replace(prolly a parts car I found).

How's that sound?

A1 sounds like a solid plan, A2 is risky though given your circumstances, and short cash flow. Just park it at friend's and part it out if it doesn't work. You will get way more for it this way than if you sell to J/Y or as a rolling chassis. Just the headlights are worth as much as you would get from a salvage yard lol.
