Painting door handles - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #69662 13 posts Started by A_N_T_H_O_N_Y
My door handles are very faded. I want to repaint them. Is there a way to take them off, or should I just cover around them and paint it. Also, what are my options paint-wise? Like spray, brush, etc... And where would I get the paint?

I'm not a paint expert or anything like that, but I would go with a complimentary color other than red. Because getting a spray/brush/or any kind of paint would be FRIKKIN hard to match other than mixing paint to get the right shade. Try and see how black would look. Or take it to a body shop and see how much they'll charge to spray those pieces, shouldn't be much. That's just my opinion, what does the rest of the 6GC community think???
i agree....but if money isn't an issue paint the entire car!

i had my celica door handels faded for 2 years and looked horrible, and just recently had a candy paint job done!!! biggrin.gif
done mine with a rattle can(red 3l2) + clear coat(rattle can too)

That looks great, where did you get the rattle can?
nearly any car store
you just have to ask them
(the standard red toyota isnt the good one)
the good one(at least for me) is 3L2 renaissance red

good luck
yes it do look great (even a year later)
i would not get the paint at a regular auto parts store. even their 3L2 red is not really accurate. plus, they tend to be 'watery' and doesn't really give out a good finish imo. i would go to a special paint shop and have them prepare a spray can for you. here it costs $40 for a custom spray can, where as normal auto parts store carry the 3L2 red spray can for ~$13. red is very hard to match so i would definitely pay the extra $$ to make sure the color and finish match.

In the pic, the finish looks a little less glossy.

Just being nitpicky, though. That looks damn near flawless. I couldn't ever spray that well, very nice job smile.gif

That's because the handles are plastic and what you're comparing it to is metal. wink.gif

It's easy to get your door handles off. You just have to remove the door pannels and you'll see how the handles are mounted.
If I were you, I won't spray the little rubber peace that is around your door handle.
Anywhere I see that rubber peace is painted, paint is crumbling off kindasad.gif

How is it after several months of owning my car (and over 5-6 years of having the car in the family) i haven't noticed the door handles are plastic? =_=

Stupid me.
