Nammer's car has white raiser blocks and the one in that video has black raiser blocks. They do look similar though. But they have the same rear lip and rear side window tint.. Looks like that could be the one.

Nammer, nice buy thumbsup.gif

Indeed it is. I got them to paint the raiser blocks white and leave the lettering black when they gave the car a fresh coat of paint and sanded out some surface rust. =D Thank!

Oh i can feel the vibe...it arrived today..but my insurance broker doesn't work on sunday and i promised i'd get my insurance from her....so i went down to the docks to take a look at it...take my key (just in case the workers can't resist the temptation)....started her up and she roared...the blitz muffler has a nice sound to it....all that's missing is a BOV so i can hear the sexy PSSshhhhh tongue.gif

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
Recaro confetti interior = great amounts of win. Pull the center cushion out and have it reupholstered with Recaro fabric, but do not have the confetti covered.

C-ONE lip on rpmgarage for ONLY $250 shipped!!! Its cut in half but you can fiberglass it together.
DO NOT run 91 octane in a JDM 3S-GTE _EVER_.

For best results use something as close to Jap spec 100 octane as possible, in my country that would be BP Ultimate 98.

You can get away with running 91 as a last resort, but your knock sensor will trigger major ignition retardation, you may even damage your engine. Once I ran out of gas parked on a hill and I had to walk home and use the 91 out of my fuel container for the lawn mower, I was able to start the engine and limp the car to the next gas station.

not too fond of the confetti pattern....but red seats like the recaro raptor on the other hand....that;s full of win in my books haha

well I guess I won't be running 91 octane haha...don't want to damage my engine....if saving in the short term means spending on engine repairs in the long term then 94 octane it is haha..thanks

oh and one more thing....
does anyone know which of these part numbers is for the right side clear JDM high beam headlamp?

As found in the stickies:
Clear High Beams - These high beams are available in some Celicas overseas from 1996-on and they have a crystal clear lense. The part numbers are below.
81130-20050
81170-20050 <-- I think it's this one...

Just to clearify...it's the driver side highbeam for JDM celicas...and the passenger side highbeam for USDM celicas...

Much appreciated!

Does Canada use RON or MON ? I might be confused here but 91 is "regular unleaded" here, 95 is lower grade premium, 98 is premium and 100 is race fuel.

In Japan they use 100 octane equiv to what we call race fuel, You may have to do the conversion into your own system, but yeah you can get away with using 95, It's just not as responsive as 98 but it will work fine.

If your "91" is what we call 95 then forget what I've said.

PS. Don't even think of saving money on fuel, Nomatter what you get, If you want any fun out of your car it'll all be drinken up just as fast lol. This IS a gas guzzler, not an economy oriented FE engined car tongue.gif

Are you dealing with terra2imports? I have been communicating with one of their people for last couple of weeks. I may be throwing a gt-4 over the fence sometime this upcoming spring if you know what I mean.

How do you plan on getting a title and registering? I know here in Utah you can import it as a kit car and have it registered. But it has to be shipped in parts.
We all know that its near darn impossible to get gt-4 here. All I can say is that rules and regulations are subject to interpretation and there are alternate ways of driving a vehicle in usa, legally.

dude I know how you feel about the wait. I bought mine (identical to yours except black) sight unseen 2 weeks ago. I finally take delivery on thursday....I haven't seen anything but pictures so far

No I dealt with Grant from www.tyeeimports.com
His response time is pretty quick and he helped me out a lot with getting the car to the condition I wanted.
I've heard it's hard to get it over the fence but good luck with it...hope to see you start a thread one day with "GT-Four" and "my new" in the same title biggrin.gif

oh i'm sure you'll get used to it rather quickly..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
how much did you paid for that celi man,,?
I have done some research and apparently there is a device that lets you put a system of mirrors on the left side so that you can pass other cars safely. I watched a clip on youtube from some russian company that makes them. To be honest... I would have probably invested into a camera system that is not obstructing half the windshield.
To answer your "over the fence" thing... while I am at least 5 months away from being able to begin trying there is a glimmer of hope. Ethically I am bound to obey all laws and regulations but there is a large portion of my conscious that tells me "Ehh to hell with it" and get one here anyways legal or not. I do have a daily driver which is my swapped celi.. so as far as I am concerned if I actually physically brought a gt-4 here to my parking lot.. rest would kind of manifest itself into something that I can drive one way or another. I will definitely check out that site you mentioned. So far I have been trading messages with company called terra2imports.

Captain Pessimist
you know i was thinking of importing one and drive it at night haha when the cops wont notice that is a lhd hahaha
I personally think that (and I know I know I am about to raise some eyebrows) it is possible to just put your license plate on imported gt-4, remove the "4" from the badge at rear of vehicle and drive it. Now of course your street legal celica will have to be either permanently garaged or covered and be same color and model obviously). I drove 2 celicas for 2 years paying for only one insurance and registration etc. Was not exactly legal but hey I kept one covered, moved license plate to other one and drive that one for a few days then swap the plate again and covered the other car. No problems at all. I have even been pulled over on a couple occasions and officer checked that my driver record was clean and let me go.

Basically what I am saying is that say you have 1994 white toyota celica hatchback gt and 1994 white toyota celica hatchback gt-4... aside from steering wheel being on the wrong side there is no way one could ever tell those apart. Of course ethically and morally it is wrong but its not like our government is volunteering to change laws or anything.

ya that works as long as you don't run into trouble...worst case scenario, knock on wood, you get into a fender bender and the insurance company investigates and your VIN doesn't match the one on the GT-Four....well it won't be pretty...
On my insurance papers it does state that it's a RHD...i'm assuming other companies would state that too...lets just hope that if a cop pulls you over...he'll be like "sweet ride" and just over look it hahaha

|Photoshoot|COTM: June 2011|My progress thread|Reputation|Old group buy|
yarik83 - RHD alone would cause further investigation. a gt4 registered as a gt would trigger a cop to investigate illegal modifications, check for a mod cert, etc.

for example.. what the hell is that big black box under the boot? why does a 2.2L NA require such big brakes? Whats under the bonnet that requires such vents?

as for screwing insurance... the best that could happen is you'd get paid out for a car which is what? half or 1/3rd the value?

thats ridiculous.

and yeah, ignore what i said about the fuel octane, i thought Canada used RON like Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand... basically your 91 is equiv to what we call 95. Your 89 is equiv to what we call 91 and your 94 is equiv to what we call 98. And probably if you had something called 95 or 96 it would be equiv to what we call 100 octane or race fuel or sometimes mislabeled AVGAS.

Mike W1996 Toyota Celica ST205 GT-FOURGT2860RS turbine, TiAL mvr44, JE 86.5φ piston, Clutchmasters FX400, APEX P-FC269awhp / 273ft-lbs
Well, RHD drive is the biggest problem and indicator...there are thousands of 6GC'ers running around with GT-4 hoods and bumpers, and the brakes could've been swapped as well (just look at Culpable.) The authorities would be ignorant of Celicas anyway, and how many other cars do you see running around with body kits anyway?

But yeah, once that cop pulls you over and finds out he's looking into the passenger side...most likely problems.

UNLESS, you do a LHD conversion like malpaso...or just put a surrogate wheel on the passenger side. laugh.gif

I bought it from jdmmotorimports in Calgary, got it shipped to Vancouver, and my dad is driving it up here for me tomorrow. I'll need to get an out of province inspection but the guy says it was imported only 3 months ago so I shouldn't have a problem getting it to pass again

It's not a matter of which side of the car the steering wheel is on (at least here in the US) that makes it illegal, it's the fact that the cars don't meet safety requirements and smog requirements. Think about US Postal Service vehicles. They are all RHD, and are sold at auctions all the time. If a cop pulls you over and you've done a RHD dash swap they aren't going to ticket you over it, unless that is directly related to you being pulled over (i.e. you suck at driving)

Before you can drive (legally) an imported car on the roads you have to get the car inspected and approved by the State Patrol to make sure it conforms to the standards of safety and smog that every other car in the US has to. That is what you will pay out the a** for when importing a car. That's why its best left to a broker who takes care of all of that for you. Then you will be given a new VIN, and then you can insure it.

And yarik - You're the reason our insurance rates are so high. Thanks.

No you can't just remove the "-four" from the emblem and drive it, are you high? Why don't you drill out the VIN plates and swap 'em while you're at it, just to make it a little more believable.

If importing from Canada, border patrol "should" be checking papers on any car coming back in to the states. I believe forgmann went to a small border check and that is how he got his across, but if you go to any major crossing point they're going to want to check papers, whether you're driving it, or have it on a flatbed.

Importing from Japan or any country that transports by sea, the car will not be able to leave the shipyard until it complies with federal regulations. This is when you want a broker to take care of legalizing the car.

Straight from wikipedia:

"In most countries, including all of those of Europe, and Australia, the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON - but in the United States, Canada, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI). It may also sometimes be called the Road Octane Number (RdON), Pump Octane Number (PON), or (R+M)/2.

Because of the 8 to 10 point difference noted above, the octane rating shown in the United States is 4 to 5 points lower than the rating shown elsewhere in the world for the same fuel. See the table in the following section for a comparison."

"regular" gasoline in US and Canada
RON 91–92
MON 82–83
AKI 87

"EuroSuper" or "EuroPremium"
RON 95
MON 85–86
AKI 90–91

"premium" gasoline in US and Canada
RON 97-98
MON 88–89
AKI 93

I think you will be fine with 91 which is generally the highest most pumps sell.

I agree with what you said about being pulled over. Cops do not target you just because you are driving on the other side of the car. Would I personally swap vins? I can assure you that that would be THE first thing that I do. Ethically it is wrong but if I own 2 identical celicas of same color, body type and yada yada then it does not really matter which celica is which. Think about it.. you own both cars and one car is garaged. I do not see anything less legal about swapping vins of 2 identical cars that you both own... than driving 80 on a highway. That is not to say that I would recommend swapping vins and driving 80 on a highway. Usually people who get caught are people who do something stupid like tell entire galaxy about what they did. In a situation where 2 people own gt-4's and one tells his entire school about it and one just keeps it to himself.. someone is bound to listen to the first guy, tell his dad, who's cousin is on police force and next thing you know you have a swat team knocking on his door. It is like winning a lottery. You win, you tell, you get pummled. You win, you stay quiet, you spend rest of your life a happy person.

Its funny that you mentioned insurance.. cause mine is $343.00 every six month. If there was a person with a safe driving record... that would be me.

The whole question about legality is obviously something that needs to be taken very seriously. Repercussion of mistakes often involves dire consequences that often occur only because person responsible could not lay low and keep his mouth shut. Does not matter if its cars, homework, work, politics... its all the same.
