Found this pretty funny - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm going to step out on a limb here and voice my opinion on this controversy, since well, that seems to be the going trend. Honestly, it's all in taste. If you want a cheap reliable car that is very easy to mod, the Civic, or any Honda for that fact, is your choice. It is way to easy to build a Honda. And I'm sorry, but the "Cheap, Reliable, Fast...pick two" quote does not apply to Hondas. I can attest to this. I have a fully built EJ1 Civic that is also my daily driver. Next spring when its fully tuned I will be laying down 380-400 whp. Hondas just accept mods soo much nicer than Toyotas do. Ask Jim, ask Shannon, ask Brent or anyone else who has a 5S-FTE or 3S-GTE. Toyotas are tempermental bitches when it comes to tweaking their performance. This is also why I have a 3S-GTE project sitting in the garage, and has been for 4+ years, and my Honda got built in less than 6 months.

I can see everyones point of view from a neutral standpoint. I feel, and this is MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION, but I feel that if your an automotive enthusiast, you should be open minded towards everything in the performance world. I know Hondas seem to be Toyotas competition, but don't knock the Honda guys. They put time and money into their cars just like everyone on these forums to with their Celicas. To me, that deserves respect.

>^ I'd like to see his 1/4 run...10's? Granted, it might be fast...but they look like crap to me. Honestly, that thing has no styling. And (ignore this if it has anything to do with performance that I don't know about) I love how his rims don't match.

Lol. I forgot he made the claim that his Civic runs 10's. It can not and will not run a 10. He runs that in the 1/8, not the 1/4. We don't have a 1/4 mile drag strip around here. The mismatched rims, he can't afford anything better so he buys what he can and puts them on there. He never has any given rim longer than a month. And the stock Honda wheels looked best on that car. His car only has a D16B in it. It's 130ish hp. It'll never run 10's, like other Honda motors. But I can attest that his Civic is much lighter and faster than my Celica.

But who cares? His car looks and sounds like crap. Any time I go somewhere with him, I'm the one that gets all the attention. And you don't have to go fast to look good. When I see a nice car, I respect it a lot more if the person cares to go slow. When somebody is ripping through town, I immediately assume bad things about them, even if they might be the nicest person in the world. And that is my problem with Hondas. Every Honda owner I've ever met* is a complete moron that things they have to floor it everywhere they go just so people can hear their Ebay exhaust, and they think they get mad "props" from everyone around, when in reality, it's quite the opposite. I'm quite content with the fact that anyone that swaps a K20 into their Civic will be faster than my GT. I'm just grateful that I don't have the "floor it to be as loud as possible and try to make everyone think I have friends" mentality.

*We don't have good Honda owners here. Only the guys that saw F&F when they were 12 and want to be just like Paul Walker. I can't rip on every guy that owns a Honda. Goferris and boosted185 seem like really cool guys.

I was gonna say, that can't be the in the quarter. But that car is also an example of why I'm not a fan of most Hondas...like you said, the rims don't match...but just look at the peeling paint on the front bumper. Honestly, I can respect wanting to go fast...but I'm gonna build my exterior first and then focus on the engine. I am just not a fan of cars that look crappy.

I'm completely the opposite. Well before I had my 6g anyway. I could car less about exterior as long as I had a decent built engine in the bay. But I guess I was a more go and less show guy before. I guess it's a "before" factor due the my ST being so slow and the only thing it really has is looks so why not right? I must admit I'm obsessed with how my car looks now, I just love it. Yea I'm not the fastest but meh, every time someone see's it they stare at it for a while since it's not something you see everyday.

On another note I found it quite funny when my cousin got his first hatchback and I was so impressed by it since I had never seen it. But as soon as he got it he goes "I would never see this car but once I got one, now their everywhere". Now I feel the same due to I never would see them before but now I see at least 4 a day going to school or while working on my car at my cous. garage.

Can't wait to drive my car for the first time, worked on it for so long and everytime I look at it I feel like I'm blow the 180mph mark in less then 3seconds cause of how fast it looks tongue.gif

I think that's a huuuge part of it, since making these cars remotely fast is the most expensive to do.

This is why its great living in Australia, its rare to see people in riced hondas, we just get commodore and falcon drivers over here, most of my mates just like a variety cars and don't just like one.

You know what? We can argue Toyota vs. Honda all day long. Both have their ups and downs, so I'll leave it at this: I drive a slow girl's car, and I'm proud of it. Celica FTW.

>Personally, I think a lot have to do with the looks. Not everyone can stand the 4 eyed Celicas, it requires taste. Honda cars on the other hand, looks very generic and very easy on the eyes for most people. Plus, the Celicas were way overpriced in the first place. So everyone buy Hondas and after 10, 15 years... the Celicas become rare as hell, parts stop producing and become rare as hell. And to be honest, stock USA Celicas ARE slow as hell.

Either way, I have a unique taste and I love the weird looking Celicas with a rich rally history that ended sadly. And I'm glad I found a forum filled with a bunch of people with the same love for this rare car.

AMEN!!that is the reason I got my celica in 99 when the whole stupid rice trend honda craze was really full force, no one really had celicas everyone wanted the same stupid accord or civic, no originality, and indeed generic looks. And yes, the parts are rare and the cars are rare, that's what makes us so different and so much better smile.gif and personally I don't care about being the fastest car in town, I don't race and honestly I don't feel like getting my car impounded and demolished as punishment. Majority of us are here for the love of the car not to race at a speedway or do some stupid street racing that is so lame anyways.

LOL

ha ha hey you sexy Celica !

The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of2000 7th gen GTS 6spd95 st, swapped 3sgte 3rd gen wrc version :D
truth be told...when it comes to the 6g running 13's while the civic runs 12's. suspension. bottom line. it's not power or weight but the fact that toyota suspension is designed to handle. and handle very well.
I know I'll be lynched for saying this, but no Honda on the market currently, or in the last 15 years has peaked my interest.

I drove my father's Accord when I was learning how to drive stick, and it had the worst shifter in the world. Of course, I didn't know that then, but now that I've driven other sticks, I can attest I see nothing that is great about it's performance OR it's looks. (the Accord has to be the most boring car on the road..especially the 90's and early 2000 models).

I'm sure you can drop a better engine in there, or put a bunch of crap in there to make it move faster than a Celica, but as a stock car they're horrid little things and the interior and exterior makes you want to fall asleep. His Accord was a silver one with a blue-silver interior with silver seats.... It was the most monotone generic POS I've ever been in.

Anywho, I'll get off that track...even stock the Celica is a beauty and is a fun car to drive. I don't get a car that will smoke the competition (or else my cars I've owned wouldn't be a Beetle, Prius and Celica). However, what I do buy are attractive, reliable, and extremely well balanced/fun to drive machines. I will never buy a Honda and I will never "get" them.

In my humble opinion, you can put spoilers, exhausts, lips, skirts, rims, ect on a box, but at the end of the day it's still an ugly box......that sounds like it's farting. That's another good point. When I rev my engine, my "noise" is a hearty noise coming from the ENGINE. The farting ricer Hondas I see all have their noise coming from the muffler, which tells me one thing and one thing only. It's just the exhaust. I'm not saying you can't do good things to Hondas, but I'm tired of people thinking that since their car is loud that there's power behind it. I want my engine to sing, not my ass.

Sorry for the crass attitude.. I guess it's just years of aggravation when I see these painted rustboxes passing by me every day on my way to work, trying to convince me to race them on a crowded highway.

You have a great looking celica right there

2nd Gen 3s-gte.... It lives!97celiman"92-gt-quit making up random acronyms that dont mean anything. the only real acronym is JDM"
I tried to avoid this thread at first and well temptation to post is that much more since I have some time this weekend.
Lets leave make and model aside and talk about things that matter. A driver can make all the difference in any car. So can tires and so can the car itself. I am by no means a worthy successor to Shumacher but I have been around the block a few times to make myself better than average driver. There is not a day when I do not exercise my right to conduct less than legal passes somewhere out there in my state. Not because i am rushing into but because other drivers feel like they have something to prove. Whether its pulling up to a gas station or 7/11 or blockbuster or grocery store, there are always drivers out there who show absolute disrespect for my vehicle. When they see a celica they immediately jump to guns and think that its slow and that its a girls car and then they see my taillights about 20 car lengths in front of them and try to justify their loss to bad shifting or some other unforeseeable force. I don't know how fast my car runs on 0-60 nor I know about quarter mile times. All I do know is when I have some fun with my co-worker's 2007 sti and my neighbor's 2005 evo mr I always come to the finish line first. It is not something to boast about nor do I intend to. I love their cars as much as I love mine.
So far out of dozens of fun moments I think I only lost once and that was before I put my greddy BOV. My car hit max boost and ripped coupling off giving me the biggest scare of my life for that year. But then of course my car is always lighter then opponent's and my horse power was dynotuned to 261 to the wheels and it does have engine management system but that does not mean that my car is better than person that I beat or do not beat. I always shake hands or give verbal respect to my opponent because I know how much tears and sweat and money went into building their machines. I always encourage people to be safe, drive smarter and race within their bracket. Mine just happens to be in between early JDM and mid pack jdm. I am sure that my car would not stand a chance against something like a ferrari but heck with 200 more horse power or if it was gutted out like a wrc car is ... maybe.

I say we promote encouragement, respect and help people get the best out of their cars safely.

owning an All-Trac, 6th gen, 7th gen, and a MKIV Supra. Honestly the car i like to drive the most is the 6th gen. Its just an all around good looking car. rides smooth and handles well. i love my Supra and the other celicas, but the 6th gen is my favorite

ok this is just my opinion, i may only be 19 but i have driven my fair share of hondas, infinitis, lexus's, and a few tegs and here is what i have found out, the car i learned to drive with was an 03 civic lx, and it was slow as **** and had a lot of body roll to it, but i thought it was cool because i used to be all about hondas. then my mom got an 03 accord with the 2.4 lier I-vtech, and let me say this car will scream, but it is ugly as sin and the handleing is horrible, now my second car i had for 2 years was an infiniti j30. ugly as ****, horrible handleing, but it was rwd and i loved that. and it had the 300zx tt motor in it, yes fast but extremley hard to control, if it was moist outside the ass end would kick out, so i sold it and bought the celi. the celi being my first 5 speed i love it, she is the best handleing car i have ever driven, and my dad has an 09 IS 250 AWD, and i stil prefer to drive the celica and it is great on gas, just a little slow, my dad who is 45 years old would rather drive my celica to work than his IS 250, now thats saying something, even though he works for toyota, but the celi is by far the best i have driven

This is kinda biased, We're talking Civic/Integra Vs Celica on a Celica forum. Lol

But I can honestly say that in no department is any Civic or Integra better than my Celica.

(Possibly because it's an ST205 Celica lol, So I'll leave you folk to defend your USDM versions tongue.gif)

Accord > Camry ... Just bough a 2004 Accord EX I4 and it has been nothing but the best ride, heated a$$, and XM radio all day long. Now dont get me wrong the Camry is a smooth ride my mom has an 05 XLE loaded but she is asking me to drive my Accord and trade for a few days...my accord has a higher KBB than my moms 05 with almost the same amount of miles.

Integra > Celica ( only because the celica is so sexy ) Integra does not take near as much to make it look good. and will rape a celica in performance. I drove a celica for three years and have been antagonized by all my honda friends.... it is just to be different...which is much needed when everyone in the world has a Honda.

I hate to say it as much as everyone else cause I love my Toyota, but ...
