I get two copies for free from my uni degree (Studying IT). Been running 7 for a while now. And lets say its great!

Does it really make a huge difference? I'm sure I can find a free copy somewhere.

Having said that, I do game quite a lot, so if it runs more efficiently than Vista...I might bite.

i could go on and on about how great it is, but you wont believe me till you try yourself. so hop on it!! start looking.haha..but in all seriousness, windows 7 is a million times better in every way possible, than vista.. i had the beta version of 7 for a long time now and have NO complaints.

prior to 7 i would have to wipe the hard drive and start fresh on xp and/or vista due to viruses or things not getting installed properly..i had to do that at least every other month. but ever since i got 7 i never had to. smile.gif

Hmm...is there a way to do a HDD backup then? I wouldn't want to lose all my data.

i was just reading about that to make sure, Ferdi, this upgrade does not require you to save all your files, it is "SUPPOSED TO" leave all that intact from what i just read..

BUT you can never be too sure, save things on an external HDD if you have one, or a large flash drive, or start burning to some dvd's. lol

Take all your important stuff and burn it to a few blank dvds or a spare hard drive. You should be backing up that stuff anyway, to prevent data loss.

I just finished the install, not one file is out of place. I backed up to a spare HDD anyway, better safe than sorry.

i've been running build 7100 on both my home pc and laptop with little to no problems for several months now. but i can't remember when it's supposed to expire though..

May 2010 the RC will expire.


My coworker's Father-in-law is a patent attorney for Microsoft, so I got a free copy of Win7 Ultimate. It's pretty much leaps and bounds better than Vista. From a professional standpoint I can't wait to get it in and start phasing out XP.

IT IS?! Hell yeah! I am getting it! Does anyone know if I have to save everything as back up? This will reformat my whole computer, won't it? Oh nevermind, I read that it is "Supposed" to leave the files alone. Hmm... I need to get an external hard drive before I do this. Is there a deadline?

if anybody does this and needs to make a bootable Win7 DVD (all you get is a download for the $30).. here are the instructions.

Its funny how Microsoft finally has a good idea at selling windows at a discounted rate for students who would probably pirate it anyway, yet they fail at not providing a normal ISO that you can burn.
This is more work, than getting a pirated version...and thats sad!

Yeah i expected to be downloading an iso, i guessed wrong there. a whole mess of files is what i got. They did offer me the DVD via mail for $14 more which is probably why they didn't make it so easy to burn, so they can make more money off people, you know.. duh. laugh.gif

It says upgrade not DVD, not ISO and if you don't even have Windows already for that .bit version your getting. GOOD LUCK!
