Im in the middle of changin out my front axles, and im stuck on the passenger side axle. I removed the driver side no problem, used a prybar on it and it came out after a few tries. The passenger side wont even budge! It hasnt moved at all, no matter how hard i pull on the prybar. Am i missing something here? What have you guys done to get the passenger side axle out?

it's held in on a carrier bearing. Follow the axle from the tranny out and you'll see where its bolted in. Two 14mm bolts, seperate the carrier and it slides right out.

son of a bitch, i knew there had to be something else. I have an ST, is it the same on both ST and GT? Ill look for it tomorrow. Thanks a lot man, that really helps me out.

oops, thought it was a GT. ST is different. Just pry harder

I just used a screw driver and a mallet - pops right out after a few good whacks....

When I was doing mine, I used an array of different things, not sure what finally got it out, but definitely a lot of force. I think we used a ball joint remover at the end along with an extension and a nice sized hammer.

It has to be a sudden force... the axle has a C-clip at the end that seats inside the transmission... so you have to sort of apply the force as a shock by means of hammer.

yea i got it out by putting the end of the pry bar up against the side of the axle, and wacking it with a mallet. Came right out. I was trying to pry it when i posted this but it wasnt budging, got it though!

Way to muscle it out son.

Ah.... That's why I couldn't get mine out! I ended up taking the axle apart instead.



The other part is still in the transmission, which is in a box, which is in my barn. Lol.

It looks like i didn't tighten the swar bar end link that connects to the lower control arm enough. I thought i needed to disconnect it from the lca but i didnt end up needing to remove, but i did get the nut loose off the bracket. I never put the allen key in the end of the stud though to loosen the nut off so i didnt actually loosen the nut off the stud. How do i tighten the nut up though so its nice and tight again? Right now i can put a socket on the end of the nut and it will move the nut and the stud around. I can hear a noise coming from that endlink connection when i hit bumps.

Try One - Impact Wrench should be all you need to tighten that right up.

Try Two - Impact Wrench and a Ball Joint Remove to sort of wedge the ball joint from spinning - may rip the ball joint boot.

Try Three - (and most likely) Sawz-all OFF the ball joint on both ends - buy a new one and go see "Try One".

^ agreedish if its making noise u need a new one the easiest way to remove is cut them cause 10to1 odds there so rusted that theres no saving them if u want to remove it tho the best way to not destroy it is take a par of neddle noe vice grips grab on to the back of it but not on the boot then use an impact and u can stand a decent chance of saving them but thats about a 25-50% chance depending on how old they r
