Engine Coatings - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #70277 8 posts Started by qatar11
So I'm thinking of getting some engine parts i previously had powder coated in a glossy finish stripped and either going with

- Satin paint
- Satin powder coating
- Black Anodizing

Parts in question

Hardline Tubes
Valve Cover
Oil Sub Plate?
Various Brakets

What is everyone using? And are you having success with regards to durability?

it depends what parts you are talking about... paint works fine, powder coating holds up a little better and doesn't loose its shine quite as easy, anodizing is overkill... if you're going just black, painting will work just fine...

Breaking Axles...
Don't bother with annoing anything,
it's SUPER costly, and frankly not worth it in my opinion. Powder coating will definitely last with heat and vibrations, but again, will be pricey. Unless it's a show car, I wouldn't be investing a ton of money into engine bling...

Not so much bling as..... good engine hygene - I want the engine to look clean and kept when I put it in, and I don't want all the coating to flake off after 1000 miles, assuming of course that the car doesn't burn down to the ground.

I'd just get engine enamel, or high-temp paint and do multiple coats (probably 4-5). It'll last, that stuff is resilient as hell, I got some on my finger nail, and it stayed on there until I cut it off months later... and I wash my hands a lot...

to powder coat the block you'd need to totally tear the engine down to a bare block, get it hot tanked and the outside bead blasted, then masked, powdered/baked. you have to take the engine out of the car and totally apart.

I believe that he is doing this to a spare engine that will then be re-installed into the bay. However, I agree, it's a LOT of work...
