Engine jerking - 6G Celicas Forums

Hello,


I have a jerky celica to deal with at around 2000 rpm when shifting gears.

Usually from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd gear this happens. When I release clutch upon the gear shift, the engine will jerk a few times upo acceleration, causing my head to jerk back and forth before delivering smooth power?

My car is 94 Celica GT-S 5SFE and 5 spd manual equipped. It has around 105k miles and t-belt was changed by dealer recently. I think plug/wires are still OEM.

Car is in prett good shape except for this annying issue.

that happens to me also. only when the car is cold... i noticed it needs way more rpms when it is cold, other wise it shakes very violently.

it may be the spark plug and wires . the same thing happen to me. but i have 240k on mine and the sprak plugs where factory. so u can try that

just curious... how long have you been driving a stick? specifically the celica? cause im dead confident that its not the engine, but its your style/technique in driving a manual transmission.... is bad...

im 18 and ive had it since i was 15 . passed on by my father. which he had it since i was around 11

try shifting at a reasonable rpm level ... like 3500..atleast.

2000 is pretty low and will make it feel like weak power and will shudder. try between 2500 and 3000 and from there take it easy on the shifting not like you are racing. make it smooth. does your car shake on idle too?

haha,, as for me, it'll be 1 year this jan.


as i first started i was horrible!


but, i liked to think im a way better driver now. , and that only happens when it is cold.

so my question is, am im not shifting right at all, but i only notice it when it is cold?


or when the engine is cold, i just need to give it more rpms?

Giving it more rpms would be worth a try.

I have to shift at around 3200 when it's cold to be smooth.

doesn't matter where i shift, the clutch and lightened flywheel make driving smooth NOT an option. always jerks even when i baby it.

If the higher RPM shift doesn't help,then think about a tune-up.
Mine acted like that no matter when I shifted.A 6GCer suggested check wires,plugs,dizzy.
Did a basic tune-up & all is good!!

Well, its been about 11 years now. I thought it was my driving too but i don't think it is.

My car has about 105k miles and pretty much stock. The plugs are probably original. Today I pulled them out and it looks like I have the
oem DENSO PK20R11 spark plugs. I looked them up and it looks like they are Platinum spark plugs, hence they are probably original.


Plug wires are probably also all original. I think a tune up will be done in the near future.

Huh ? lol

Anyways, I bought some Denso PKR20R11 sparkplugs

OEM cap + Rotor and

NGK plug wires, I got the NGK TE-43. They also have NGK TE-44. Does anyone know the difference? Is the TE-44 for California standards or something?

I got Cap + Rotor from Toyota but the NGK stuff from http://www.importcarpartscanada.ca/


I will change 'em as soon as they come in and I will report back.
