Quick Oil Pan Question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #70312 5 posts Started by 6G96GT
I had my oil pan gasket replaced today. The mechanic said when he pulled the pan down, he noticed the screen had some sludge on it but he cleaned it off and it's good to go. My question is this...the pan gasket should be fine right? I mean it's a straight forward simple job for a mech to do right?

Also, If the oil is over the full mark 1/2 a quart, how bad is that for my car, should I even be worried at all about that? When they re-installed the pan, they obviously did a fresh oil change and added 4.5 quarts (.3 over the actual limit) and I don't think they considered the oil filter and the oil it retained (they left the filter on and didn't change it since it was fairly new).

.3-.5qt over won't really hurt anything

you're asking us if we think your mechanic can change a pan gasket? if you have to ask us that then you should get a new mechanic.

It's not that I doubt him, I guess it's more along the lines of an oil pan gasket job. Is it a job that is a simple job or is it one that 'usually' comes with problems...sort of like how there's a lot of talk about servicing transmissions...before they're serviced, they're fine and then once they are serviced, they go to hell. Ever hear that?
the transmission thing is like this...

people lie. they're in denial, their trans is already acting goofy so they go in for a flush and then 'ever since' its acting goofy. thats what happens, or the guy doing the service uses the wrong fluid. its pretty hard to **** this up, i've done plenty of them. new fluid in, old fluid out, simple as that. don't run it dry, dont overfill it, and use the correct fluid.

as for the oil pan, it takes about an hour and a half, then 24hrs for the silicone to setup.*

*if the exhaust comes down OK, no studs or bolts break, may need to replace the exhaust gaskets as well.
