Convertible Top won't work - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #70501 11 posts Started by timhardy
HELP!! I replaced front and rear speakers yesterday. Now, my convertible top motors don't work (no power) and the fasten seat belt warning light stays lit. All the fuses are fine. What the heck could I have done? Tim
If the motors worked beforehand, I'm assuming you messed up somewhere with the rear speakers. Did you unplug something, maybe the power to the motors? Do they not respond at all? Or do yo hear them working, but not moving the roof?

Did you accidentally move the auto/manual switch for the convertible top? It's in the trunk behind a little panel right behind where the top folds down.

They worked before. No power at all. Is there a harness or plug near either of the rear speakers? The switch in the trunk is in the correct position (power not manual).

I checked the switch. It is okay. It also baffles me that the fasten seatbelt warning light is lit.....

Well then, you probably interfered with the power to the motors when you were doing the rear speakers.

I guess I will have to check to see if I stepped on something or broke a wire. I did not see any connectors that I could have pulled apart. Tim

So, I checked all the wires and harnesses. Everything is tight and none are broken that I can see. Any ideas anyone? I did see a relay type thing that had a wire clip attached to it. It had fallen of its mount. But I cannot see anything else. How and where might I test the connection? I don't weem to be getting any power at all. No sound from the motors or anything. They worked fine before. And, I don't see the relationship, but the seat belt warning light remains lit event when the belt is buckled. Could it be a relay or something? Fuses all appear to be good. Can anyone help? Tim

You must have pulled a wire out of a harness or something while fiddling with the rear speaker wires.
The seatbelt connector is under the seats mabey moving seat up cut the wire or something.

The top does have the relay and the plugs to the motors near the rear speaker plugs. Make sure nothing is smashed down or worn and grounding by accidently putting your hands in there and pulling stuff.
This is a strange situation.
You might have been right! I went back today (a rare sunny fall day in Oregon!) and noticed one of the interior panels was mis-installed. I went back and checked everything behind both, and under both seats, wiggling wires and squishing Molex connectors together. I'll be damned - it works again and the seat belt light is off too!
