Shift Knob - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #70896 19 posts Started by eduxz
Its about time that my celica recieves a shift knob change i was looking in ebay for trd shift knobs and i found

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRD-Leather...=item1c0e54ad34

But i read that this one only fits the 2000+ celica models

is there a model for a 94-99? if there is can someone link a website to purchase or if there is not a decent looking shift knob

thanks in advance!
People do have that one. Try searching for a Celica-specific one, but I'm pretty sure it fits.

'97 ST\ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+[sold 10/18]'93 MX-5LE
i saw the part # and the 94-99 wasn't under the list that why my concern and the stock knob is half the size of the trd one so it wouldn't have the shift way up thus making unconfortable
The TRD fits, but is too tall! I tried it and it just pushes your hand up too far. Look at the photo at the side of the knob and notice the legnth. The OEM is a short form knob and dealers can still get it. They want $149 for the leather and $90 for the bare plastic. I haven't been able to find a good used one anywhere. Here's the OEM leather: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...p;siteid=214314 Enter part number: 3350417071C0

i tried the link but it just send me to a search catalog can u post the parts number so i can see .. thanks
leather shift knob 3350417071C0 IT's the oem leather and I've never found a member that had one in good enough shape to buy. The catalog link is correct, just enter this number and toyota. They won't show you a picture of it. It's not on any of the factory 6 series parts diagrams as I have all of them. Just the part number. I had one orignally and wore the diagram off the leather. I'm just going to give up and give Toyota the $149 as it's a very well made very heavy and should be the last one I'll need!

Oh I forgot to mention it is much better quality than the long TRD your looking at. Heaver knob and thicker leather. The stiching goes around the front lip for a perfect grip and sits your palm right down on top. This time I'll keep a coat of Leather CPR on it so the leather doesn't wear!

yeah because my shift knob is the stock plastic but that thing is scratch beyond repair and welll needs change and i saw the trd and feel inlove with it then i noticed it was tooo ****ing high.... i cried haha so now i am looking for something else. i think imma have to go for the $149 too ><
Hey, I did have this example. This is not the North American, but the Asian version. Ours is exactly the same size and stiching, but is all black stiching and doesn't have the vented front. North American is Solid leather all around. But you can get the idea!

Correction the TRD leather shift knob does not make it higher, it is longer in looks but the threading is still in the same place. Basically the threads on the shaft go deep into the knob and then the shift knob bottom covers more area of the shaft. There is also the regular stock black shift knob and the red stitched one like above.

That's almost right, but the TRD will not go all the way down unless you modify the retaining ring so you can screw it down all the way! And then it mashes your shift boot down too far! The only other TRD is a shift ball that will work as is, but has a cheap look compared to the OEM.
yeah dont get teh silver or grey one that is metal, its tiny and the threads do not line up rihgt

You are suppose to screw it all the way down until its tight. Theres no other way. I have both the TRD and Black knob with red stitch.

So Trdproven the shift knob with the trd logo on the side will not look higher than the OEM
I have this shift knob in my car and I have to say it is one of my favorate upgrades I have done.It does not sit any higher from I can remember. You do have to take off the clip that holds up the shift boot. Heres a ****y pic of mine.

Got a better pic for you today. BTW I bought mine from nengun for $75 or someting close to that

Eduxc,

If you still need that oem shift knob I just found one in an old box of parts and didn't know it was there. It's the OEM glossy version and in very good condition. Shift pattern is perfect. Just need name & address, no charge! Happy Christmas!

No the knob looks longer but the thread position is the same which means its the same thing. Do you see the pic above how the TRD knob does not fully stretch the shift boot? on the oem knob it'll be stretched. The trdknob uses more of the shaft but dos not sit higher. its just a longer design

that looks just as tall as the TRD, but trust me, TRD knob is nice. For some reason, the TRD knobs in these pics look weird than when Ive seen em in other cars and in my car. No offense guys. again it might just be the pics because the redstitch knob looks a bit weird compared to mine. So it might just be pics. oh yea if you have a short shifter with the TRD knob it looks much better.
