Winter Tires - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #7123 4 posts Started by saleeka
i may buy myself some winter tires for my celica, but i dont know if i want the 15 in. size. What would be the right size if i went down to 14 inchers or mabey even 13 ins. so that my spedometer dosent get messed up. Also, any reccomendations as to what winter tire to get- i dont wanna spend a lot though, so blizzacks are out of the picture....

i just went to sam's club and got whatever studded snow tires they had to fit my stock 15" rims i think i paid $250 mounted and balanced. they are goodyear ultra grips and they work fine.
Nokian all the way
I have yoko 195-60R15 winters on steelies (guardex 600 I think). They are 24.3" OD, stock 205-55R15 are 23.9" OD. 195-65R14 have an OD of 24.0" - however I an not sure if 14's will fit over GT brake calipers. On my 15s, there is very little space between the calipers and the rim.

I went down to the 195 width because you get better traction in deeper snow with a narrow tire and you hydroplane less in slush. The tires are amazing in snow and ice, but are a little 'squishy' on dry pavement compared to the summers. Probably due to the soft sidewalls.
