Another 7th gen airbag splice question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #71587 23 posts Started by GriffGirl
I'm swapping my 4 spoke wheel for a 3 spoke wheel, and the airbag connectors of course don't match up. The wires from the connector that runs to the airbag module are blue and yellow. If I used the multimeter right, I've determined blue is power and yellow is ground.

The wires on the wheel connector are red and black though. I would assume that red is power and black is ground, but when I connected them the airbag light stayed on, so I switched it and ducked, no airbag deploy but the light is still on.

Can anyone confirm if the 7th gen airbag connector is indeed red for power and black for ground? And if so, do I need to reset the airbag ECU after splicing in the connection? Thanks
No one? Smaay, where are ya! I KNOW you know the answer to this. Come ON, peeps! tongue.gif
you need to reset the airbag ecu, you had it right teh first time, just have to find out how to reset the airbag ecu
Cool, okay. I've got instructions on how to reset the airbag ECU, so I will do that and cross my fingers biggrin.gif

Edit: Hey, so when you reset the airbag, did you use a paper clip in the terminals as though for the same process of resetting the ECU? Thanks for posting, by the way. I was a little nervous driving to work this morning!

Okay so I reset the airbag as per the instructions below, and it works, but the light comes back on when I start the car. Any thoughts or ideas beyond just checking to make sure my connections are secure? Light is on continually, no flashing. I'll try it again tonight, this time with two jumper wires from the ground terminal, to ensure I'm not waiting too long between grounding the DLC jumpers.

1) At DLC, connect a jumper wire to terminal Tc. See Figs. 11
and 12. Connect another jumper wire to terminal AB. Turn ignition
switch to ACC or ON position. Wait about 6 seconds.
2) Starting with terminal Tc, apply body ground alternately
to terminal Tc and terminal AB twice each, in cycles of 1/2 to 1 1/2
seconds (sequence is: Tc, AB, Tc, AB). Finally, keep applying body
ground to terminal Tc until air bag warning light flashes quickly,
indicating codes are cleared.
NOTE: When alternately connecting jumper probes to terminals,
simultaneously release one probe from one terminal while
connecting other probe to other terminal. If time interval
between probings exceeds 0.2 second, codes will not clear.
Where did you find the instructions?
Are they included in one of the Toyota manuals?
Do you have the pictures mentioned in the text as well? (Fig. 11 and 12)

you don't need to splice any wires just buy this adapter

have to order from here not your dealer ..

awe sorry Michelle, i need a PM. when i installed mine, i just unhooked the battery. cut and soldiered the wires, and all done. if you ahe cruise control, i used the 6th gen control. you just have to put it in at an angle. I should do a write up on this. there seems to be alot more happening

I'm going to do the same, just splice the wires together. The thing above, I'm assuming that's an adaptor? looks great, but I'm fine just splicing them together.

On the CC though, I've got my original one kind of crammed in there, but there's no way to actually bolt the unit in, which bothers me, so I'll also be splicing in the 7th gen CC stalk.

abraxxa: I'll post up a jpeg of the PDF I took that info from; it's from the BGB, you can find it here on celicatech.com
I've got all BGBs as pdfs, which one contains the infos? The 'Electrical Wiring Diagram'?

cya, abraxxa
Yes, it's in the electrical wiring diagram, IIRC search for "SRS" and you'll find it.

Thanks malpaso!
My ST205 is in winter sleep at the moment, will be reactivated at the beginning of march.
I'll swap the wheel as soon as I get the adapter from Mr-T which is in 1-3 weeks.

No point posting up a new thread so I will post here, I recently bought a second hand steering wheel to start on my project car. The only problem is I don't have the harness that actually plugs into the air bag. Pictures can be seen below, was wondering if you have a part number? The steering wheel came from a toyota, and I know a lot of cars share this wheel. Though the connecting harnesses are not the same.

I can also take out that little red connector.

I am assuming I need something like on the back of this wheel.

yeap...that last picture with the wire is what you need....you are missing that piece and need the adapter that Griff mention so it can connect with the our 6gc wire from the steering column.
I used the adapter as well, for late model celicas, they are the same harness as the 7gc. Its the earlier 94-95 celica that has a different one.

Thanks heaps for the reply, I'll search around for the part number.
