Best way to find out is to either call customer service () or go into a T-mobile store and they can look up your plan.

T-mobile unlimited text = unlimited messaging; no matter what it is (up to the 300kb limit) including IM (unless the IM client uses a data plan- which most, if not all, T-Mobile phones don't use for the built-in IM client).
