I'm not sure what you would consider cheap, but even parts with miles aren't cheap. There's not a ton of turbo options for the 6gc. Most people end up doing the swap instead.. more bang for your buck. What is it, over 2 grand to turbo a 5sfe? Others would know better.
Alot of ppl have cheap xtra parts just layin around. I'm not lookin to swap considerin idk how to yet and don't have the space to either otherwise I would love to
read thru the threads my friend.. Jim had or has EVERYTHING i mean EVERYTHING you will need to turbo your 5s from shannons car, it has mileage on it but im sure its in good condition...

if you're on a tight budget, don't do it... its not even the parts thats going to be expensive... its the maintenance after the turbo that will get you - its expensive anyway you cut it... a wise man once said:

cheap. fast. reliable. pick two

Kid, you just don't get it, do you? rolleyes.gif You wrote a nice thread already explaining how broke you are and how this is your only car and that how we should be nice to you and all because you're just a young 18 year old kid that wants his car to be fast but has no job and has just tiny bit of money. You want by all means to turbo your car, regardless of how many people have already adviced you against doing so. It's NOT happening, guy. This is not slapping a piece of metal on the exhaust manifold and going on your merry way. You don't have money. Why are you insisting on turbocharging your car on a limited budget? You cannot play with turbo stuff without money. Stuff adds up. Stuff also breaks.

I know what you're thinking. biggrin.gif You're thinking, "Hmmm, these guys don't get it. I'm gonna make it happen. I WILL turbocharge my car and prove them wrong that it's expensive. My case will be different and I will shut them up for doubting me". LOL. laugh.gif We're trying to steer you in the right direction and you just want to do your own little thing. Go ahead. Ignore us that we have spent THOUSANDS of dollars turbocharging our engines. wink.gif Go spend your few hundred bucks on turbo parts. laugh.gif

Oh, I'm being positive. Telling the truth is positive. And BELIEVE me that I'm relax, something that you won't be when you break your engine and you don't have money to fix it. tongue.gif Good luck with your car, kid. I did my part here. smile.gif

>3sgte turbo manifold and the turbo off it for $60... sum guy around my house is selling... is it worth getting?

depends if u want ceramic shards in your intake lol
watu mean. its all off a 93 3sgte mr2. hes parting the whole engine. wat other parts would i need off this engine other than the manifold and turbo?? should i get the bov the piping and intercooler and oil pan or wat other items do i need
depends on which gen.. and what kinda shape the turbo is in

can anyone second if that manifold will fit the 5sfe?? i cant remember if you need a 2nd or 3rd gen... oil pan for sure... recirc valve wouldn't hurt... no to intercooler stuff... how many psi you trying to run?

Breaking Axles...
low psi. i got 60k on my engine now n dont feel like blowing it, this car is gunna have to last me a loong time, as my parents say haha, but mab 6-8 psi if that.?
some guys run no intercooler under 7psi.. may save you a few bucks

Breaking Axles...
i dont wanna risk anything though ya no
the whole idea is a huge risk... adjusting the air/fuel ratios is a giant risk in its own... ask etak.. i bought his 99 cause he slapped a turbo on it and blew it up... only 85000 miles on the engine when he did it

Breaking Axles...
I've got some spare stuff if you really want to do it.

I DON'T suggest doing this if you want the car to be a reliable daily. Due to the limited budget you are running off of, I don't think that you are going to be able to properly tune the car to be reliable for a DD.

If you are completely set on this, I've got a spare exhaust mani, blown turbo(needs new seals $200), oil and water lines and an OEM downpipe that I can sell you for $150. I'll be in town for the weekend starting tomorrow, so if you are serious, PM me and we can work something out.

this guy that has a 93 mr2. hes got a manifold, turbo, all the intercooler piping with bov and the oil pan with block. he said he would sell the manifold and turbo for 60, the intercooler and piping for 50 and the oil pan and block for 40. hes just trying to get everything out of his garage. everything has roughly 105k on it, which im not sure is good or not thats y im asking. the turbo has no chipped fins at all, but minimal shaft play which im sure i can fix.

Check for any play in the turbo and see what it looks like before you give him $60 for a blown turbo. You will not need to intercooler and piping, it's coming off an mr2, the route and even intercooler will be completely different. The oil pan is worth maybe $25, you don't need the block along with it. How do you plan on "fixing" the play in the turbo? Cheap rebuild kit?

3 months later...

"Hey guys, wtb cheap 5sfe with low miles and under $300."
All the guy said was little shaft play. What should I look for to make sure it's ok and the same for manifold
Check for shaft play, make sure it's not too bad. Look for oil residue inside the fins of the turbo, that will tell you if the seals are shot. Nothing to really look for in a manifold, just make sure there's no cracks in it, and that it's not warped at all. Put the inlet side on a flat surface and see if it's all even, or if it wobbles a bit.

But I will advise you to not jump into this unless you are planning on spending at LEAST 2500. Sure you can build it for cheaper and skimp out on a tune and cut corners. But it will not be a solid car and reliable, like you said you needed. Save some money up, or peice together a good setup, little by little as you get money. But do not think that can go into this with no contingency.
^+1!

Very well put.

This is why I haven't put a turbo on my 5s yet. Since she's my DD, I will NOT take any risks cutting corners..... BTW jcaron: What are you running for fuel/engine management? I'm looking at getting an e-manage blue...

~bloodMoney
When I had the car, I was running just an SAFC II with a wideband.
jcaron n everyone. Thanks I'm getting parts little by little and reading up on everything. U all have been a great help
