5SFE - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #71717 9 posts Started by jeffrosie
The 99 3SFE in UK has 2 coil packs each feeding 2 cylinders, so 1 gets a spark on compression and 3 gets it on exhaust. Same with 2 and 4.
Is the 5SFE the same as this or does it come with a distributor?
Reason I'm asking is because I want to drop a 3SGE in my car in place of the 3SFE, but use all the FE electrics and have it all sdjusted usinga fuel & ignition controller as these are the 2 values that will have to be changed.
Apexi SAFC II will be used.

Will it work?

the 5s-fe uses a dist, just like the 3sfe

no.
Will try and get a pic of the engine.
5s distrib has a primary and secondary coil inside.

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
I think it will work.
In UK the 3SFE does not have a distributor. It uses a crank pickup and coil packs instead. The distributor hole is blanked.
So fitting a GE cylinder head in place of the FE cylinder head will only create the need for the engine to take in more air which will need more fuel - just the same as forcefeeding the FE engine. Correcting the ignition timing will just make it more efficient.
you just have to convert it to coil pack instead of distributor coil.
