my transmission is making some noise and one of my buddy has a spare tranny off his 3sgte lying around, was wondering if its gonna work with the 3sgte tranny on my 5sfe motor.

yeah they come on MR2s also. but the MR2 tranny has the selector shaft on the wrong side. the AWD tranny can be converted to FWD

just FYI, the MR2 tranny can also be converted to FWD use quite easily, just a couple bolts on top of the tranny to pull out the MR2 tranny shifter levers, and 4 bolts on the back side to install the camry or solara main lever.
then there are 2 bolt holes that you drill and tap for the other lever.
its actually very simple once you have the tranny and parts to convert it in front of you.
IIRC there are pics of it in jims build thread from when i did his mr2 LSD tranny.

Hey, I'm a noob. I'm trying to research all I can on my new Celica. I've seen many people say you can use an MR2 tranny or an AWD tranny on a FWD Celica. I haven't been able to find any posts detailing what needs to be done for either of these options, and I figured this was that post to ask on!
keep in mind that stock 5sfe bolted to a e153 ( MR2 turbo transmission ) will make you hate your car, it'll feel / be slow as it can get, because the transmission is designed for different power levels than a non turbo 5sfe can deliver. so you either turbo the engine along with this transmission swap, or look for a different transmission from a camry. solara, mr2 or celica, make sure it comes from a 4 cylinder and not from a v6 or turbo car.

Theres a write-up on celicatech for this. But basically you'll need a differential from an mr2 and have to remove all the internals and put it all back together.
