Struts suggestions? - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm getting lowering springs soon and I want to see if there any quality strut brands that I should go for. Also, does anyone know how much some polyurethane bushings run? Feedback is much appreciated.

KYG, Bilstein, and Koni...in order of expense (least to most).

guys seem to like the kyb set up. tein and eibach springs are popular. honestly... i would buy a coilover suspension.

in the end your gonna spend about the same about on a lower spring kit.

coilovers give you settings such as ride height, and dampening.

springs are just for looks. why not spend a little more and get the real deal?

B/c this is my daily driver, so it IS just for looks. I love 6GC's but my friend and I are gonna buy an AE86 shell and build it up to drift. We'll definitely get coilovers for that

honestly i don't think you need new struts too drop it on springs.

im on bombed ground controls on stock struts its not that bad and that's like 2.2-2.5 all thew way around

the most springs do is like 1.5

Lowering your car will kill your old struts fast.
Sure you dont HAVE to do it. You can get the same lowered look with blown struts, but the ride quality will suffer.

^^^ this is true. coilover is the best way to go. i got a used set of ksports for $700...

Well instead of making a new thread, I'm gunna hi-jack this one for a quick answer...as it is pretty much the same.

I planned on getting KYB struts, but of course I wanted to look at other options. I noticed the monroe ones have the cartridge and housing it resides in. So the question is, will the KYB front cartridge work with the stock housing and mounts?

All this is being done for coilovers that are on the way. My struts are already blown so why not do the damn thing, and get it all done at once.

Something to keep in mind is warranty terms. KYB warranties the GR-2 even with a lowered car, up to 1.5". Monroe will consider a warranty void for any amount of lowering.
Thanks, all of you have been a help.

Koni or bilstein are the only budget shocks you should consider if you want good ride quality on lowering springs. Coilovers have really ****ty dampening and ride like a bouncy hay wagon. I've owned 4 sets of coilovers and finally went with bilsteins on my rx7. That was the best decision yet.
well, you only need 4 struts (2 front, 2 rear).
Springs and depending on the mileage/age of your old mounts you might want to change those while you're at it.

Is this all I'm gonna need? These and springs?

Yup, but if you're buying them check out ebay and look for a seller called: just-suspension. They're based out of Charlotte, NC and will ship all 4 struts to you for around 205 US dollars. Not a bad deal at all and they have sets with the full rears and front inserts or full rears and full fronts - your choice.
