3M Di-noc Carbon effect Vinyl............ - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #72279 66 posts Started by manphibian
Does need a bit of practice, but here's my first piece.......

I see this stuff as much for internal trim parts as external panels or whole cars. A point that I don't think has been mentioned is this embossed pattern may not be abrasion resistant enough for body panels - could be more prone to scuffing than paint?

Try running your nail with some pressure across a scrap piece and you'll see what I mean.

Has your car ever been on T.V? Mine was used in the opening sequences here - note the clear turns and front LED'shttp://videos.streetfire.net/video/Wheeler...11-9c0f00a0b820

i'm thinking about buying this to do some less obvious interior parts. specifically... ceiling, visors and rear view
and before someone points out the obvious. yes of course i'll be stripping the visors and ceiling first.

This stuff looks really a lot like that fabric I had on an older post. But with an adhesive backing.
Really want to see the shift trim (was thinking about doing mine), for some reason i really like the dry carbon look (carbon leather...etc..) and I'd also be interested to see how doing the visors and headliner turn out.
As further inspiration, here's the centre and left side of my dash done......More pics of what you've done required smile.gif

heres a lil more i got done still need to do the power window switches gauge surrounds and maybe vents

I was hoping this wouldn't become ridiculously overdone...kindasad.gif That was my plan. Probably not the shifter surround, but definitely the radio and two vent bezels.

Was this hard to do? because of all the corners and stuff?

yeah just a lil the part where it dips in to the leather takes some heating and stretching and some strongish glue coz the stuff on the back wont hold it

ive since had to glue some other parts of the radio surround like where it goes into the vents and that
i would like to do the top of my car,,,i have minor hail damage, i was wondering if i should put the wrap on if it will stick,>?? or should i put something there but what??

Cracking job you've done there mate - not sure if the material is up to being concave formed enough without cutting and glueing, but I managed it on my 944 which is a slighly easier profile.....

I have a feeling it might have a tendency for parts which have been highly stretched to shrink in hot conditions wink.gif

did you use the 3m glue ( sold separately ) I did a few parts as a test for my interior and with the heat the vinyl started to go back to its original shape, so I was told I need the 3m glue to prevent this from happeing, I'm wondering if it'll be the same for the outside of a car.
nah, i'ts ok, it's never hot here laugh.gif

I found a UK distributor for the 3m stuff a while back was called william smith at the time they had it on an introductory price and would also send you out a free sample (its not very big, about 10cm x 15cm but it would give you an idea of the quality).

"Order any length; from 1 metre to a full 50m roll x 1220mm wide, for only £29.99 per metre"
