I geuss that time has come - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #72391 37 posts Started by marco-polo
well as the title says i will be needing a family car since my girlfriend and i are expecting a baby some time in early august. With summer time coming up i will have the extra money to purchase another car. i would like some ideas and input, if any one could help out that would be great! I am not that picky with vehicles but we all know how most girls are with being picky....with that being said the only criteria that I am looking for is

1. anything under $8000
2. Auto (for the girl lol.....)
3. A/C
4. Perferably sedan or small SUV
5. ok MPG
6. not high miles (ex:150k+)

if you know of any links of any sort feel free to pm me so the thread doesn't get overcrowded.
Thanks for any help or advice in advance!

-Marco
Older(ish) Corolla. It will have all of that and since they're pretty common, you can pick a cheap (but 2000+ model) up with relatively low miles.

^^That. Great gas mileage in those things, decent prices and still a Toyota

I'd go with a Lexus IS300. I just love the look of these cars..

^^
i always liked the way the is300 looked!

Great find azian! thumbsup.gif
An IS300 is a great option but not the most fuel efficient option if that's a factor for you.

I too was going to suggest a Corolla. You might also consider a Subaru, they don't hold their value quite as well as Toyotas do, so for the same money you might be able to get a newer model w/less mileage than a Corolla.
it gets 22 mpg which i don't think is too bad. i get about the same in mine during the winter. i would recommend at least a 6 cylinder motor if you plan on getting a sedan.. to me, 4 cylinders just doesn't cut it... plus, rwd > fwd.

we have a 2003 Mazda protege 5 clean i like it its MINT inside black leather, white exterior 65K miles its in your range...amd what scott said is yours FS???
yeah the is 300s are cool, but my dad has a 09 is 350 rwd that i was driving the week that the celi was in the shop and i simply could not stand that thing, yes it was fast which was probably why i wasted so much gas, i usually spend about 20 bucks a week going to school and work and when i drove this damn thing i spent 60 bucks in one week in gas, PREMIUM gas at that

I was in the same boat. Bought a 02 is300 and love it. 4doors with power. Very smooth ride too. You can find some for 6k. My brother in law bought a mint one with high miles for 5k.

because the time came tongue.gif.

How about a Nissan Versa? My buddy has an 06 or 07 versa and that thing is not bad, gets pretty good gas milage, plenty of space for people up to 6'6" and a pretty good stock stereo. You should be able to find one for around 8k and still quite nice.

*by the way on the title **guess.

Ah, gotcha. Keeping the Celica. Nice! Seriously, the Lexus IS 300 has made it very easy to forget the Celica. The first time I drive it, I was unsure. But I knew the next day that I had to have it. It's been absolutely the best thing I've picked up.

^ not necessarily, preferably yes....

if it comes down to it, i can teach my girl how to drive....
why do you want a passat? not even the v-dub guys like them... you gonna be modifying, or just daily driving?

my sister has a 4-door 2002 golf.. and while it's way newer than my celica, i don't like a lot of things. it doesn't shift as smooth (feels kinda clunky) takes a bit more force to put it in gear while accelerating. shifting while cruising is fine though. and i don't like the placement of the Reverse gear how you have to push down on the knob and put it to 1st. it bugs me having to lean forward to put weight on the knob because it's not something you can do while sitting comfortably, with your back against the seat. but then again, this is a golf.. i'm not sure how a passat drives but passats and golfs share a lot of things..

Weird that it has a W8 badge on the rear. It looks clean though.

a buddy at work has a jetta for his wife (2007 i think) with about 30k on it and the transmission went out last fall. they're the second owner so of course the dealer said tough luck, we'll fix it... for about 3k. so VW's aren't on his list of favorite cars. I'm sure its probably not relevant to that passat, but I figured that I'd share.

'99 Celica GT - Sold'11 Mazdaspeed3
yes it would be daily driving...
just saw on cl and thought i would share and get input about it..
id say stay around toyota wink.gif
