Header wraps - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #72691 13 posts Started by HectortheRican
I was just wondering if header wraps are safe for a daily driver. Because on my dad's AE86, with a 4AG, he wrapped his headers and he later had to replace them b/c there was a big crack on on of the seams. Maybe he didn't wrap them right? I want to know b/c since the header on the 7AFE is not even a foot away from the air compressor and I don't want the excess heat from the header to damage the compressor. (That's what happened to my dad's AE86). Help please?

My header is wrapped, and Ive had no problems. Of course by me saying that I have the feeling all the "header wrap" cons will come into play now. I know guys who also wrap their headers on old muscle cars with no problems either. Then there are guys here who run without wraps as well (and im sure have no problems). But either way, your going to get the guys who say its safe to wrap, and your going to get the ones who say you car will blow up with them on (ok, thats a bit out of proportion). I wrapped mine cause I wanted to keep bay temps down.
only a problem with mild steel and cast iron, stainless is fine.

lol, ikr! the search doesnt always work and you have to sift through tons of replies half the time not even relevant and over 2 years old. Easier to just post your own, and helps new people smile.gif

Alright guys, thanks. I'm just making sure cause I live in Texas and it gets HOT in the summer. I can't have my A/C going out just because of excessive heat from headers.

i haven't wrap my header yet in my GT. Nothing wrong so far but the engine has been really hot when you opened the hood and I notice that the air coming from my motor also smells bad when you rev your car.
