i'm trying to remove the EFI relay. the square black one on the lower left. I tried by hand, with pliers, broke half of it off and still can't get it off. Replacement one looks just like a plug, so appears that it would pull off easy. what the heck???

there are tabs on each side you need to pry. Using a flat head screw driver lift/pry the tabs then pull the relay out
