Ok i bought the car with a broken mast, no problem, get new mast and feed it in the antenna assembly. I have done this twice before, on my Supra and MR2 when i had one. well this one will not feed in. the new mast feed in about 10 inches and then stops. im so freaking mad at it! i got so mad i bent the new mast, so now i need another one. ****! so whats the problem? and yes i took the assembly apart and removed the broken part of the old mast. it was all jacked up in there. could something be pinching it?

First a couple of questions. Is the replacement mast OEM or aftermarket. If it's an OEM mast I had the same problem and the problem was the old grease. I had to clean out all the old grease with grease cleaner and replaced with white lithium with tephylon lube and no more problems. The OEM Celica is a long five section mast and it takes a while to break in the spine, but after a few dozen runs it works like new. It also has a very touchy trip sensor so it tends to shut down if there's even the least amount of resistance. Most aftermarket replacements is a four section and causes all kinds of problems.
yes it was an OEM mast that i was using. and yes it seems that at the slightest resistance the motor shuts down. ill try giving it a good cleaning. another thing i notices is the big gear has 2 positions, if you rotate it just right it will sandwich all the way down. or you can have some space in it. i think you want the space to allow for the mast to fully extend or retract.

For less money than a new mast you can get a new antenna from www.antennamastsrus.com. It takes a bit of fiddling but when you are finished you know that you have a good antenna.
