Lower then Low - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #72851 13 posts Started by stl95celica
soooo the setup on my car now is how it was when I got it. (the springs were cut) so my struts are horribly blown and I always bottom out, it's embarrsing when I give people rides.
okay so the aftermarket lowering springs that companys offer dont lower my car to my likeing.
So I was thinking, some cars came with the MacPherson strut setup besides celicas, (like other Toyota models and im pretty sure some 240sx's). Is it possible to swap springs with lighter cars with the MacPherson setup???? Coilovers are out of my price range right now. Thanks for the help if you understand what I'm saying laugh.gif

I would only install springs intended for 6th gen Celicas.

Well I know that Hondas springs are interchangeable with other Honda models....

That's tough. You would have to match the diameters of all the springs, figure out how much weight the replacement spring is designed to hold, and how much lower would that make the celica. I have my old springs out in my shop and I could measure them if you like. I don't know how hard it would be to track down the diameter of replacement springs or figure out how much weight they were intended to support and how to relate that to the celica.

If you want to replace the entire strut assembly all you have to do is measure the mounting bolts, top and bottom, and go to a junk yard or auto parts store and find what fits. Might be best to walk in with a six pack before you ask the counter person to bring out a bunch of parts just to see if they work. On second thought a half rack would be best.

How low would you want to go? I have eibach prolines on my car and it's plenty low with the Scion tC rims. Stock rims would be even lower. Besides, if you went lower than that you would constantly be blowing out struts.

well hey 6gc, i used to had the 1998 Toyota Matrix Stunk 2 spring on my car which it fits nicely but it makes horrible noisy in the back strut and the front is very very low which looks really nice but it always bottom out too. This is nothing you guys should try but I just want to let you guy know that I had try other springs from different car to my celica. Its better getting the right on for your car.
If you want to go low and not bottom out your only 3 options are riding on air suspension or hydraulic suspension or purchase springs that are very hard with no give. Ride quality in the latter will go out the window as you will be feeling every bump.

You are making it harder on yourself, just get 6gen springs or get aftermarket lowering springs or coilovers, or get spring bumpers for your shocks. Not sure how aftermarket springs would not lower your car to your liking? they range between 1" to 2.2" if thats not even enough coilovers will do 4" if you want. i know coilovers is not in your budget but if exact height is in your interest, budget needs to be. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish because I am getting you want random springs from other cars to meet your exact desire/specifications for ride height and comfort. Hope this clarifies your question. Basically, get what is made for our cars. we are all here to help you with any questions.

like the rest of the guys said, i'd only go with things intended for the 6gc when it comes to your dilemma. alos not that in most cases you get what you pay for. i will always recommend full coil suspension over lowering springs... good luck in your searching!
