Just wondering if turboing a 7A is a waste of time or should I just save for the 3SGTE?

thats a silly question if u ask me bc my answer will b 3sgte, thats jus my opinon. BUTTT it depends on your power goals

depends what you want! hurley97 has a pretty sick-nasty 7afte! she is making 200+ hp. 3sgte is always a good choice for power, but a 7afte is nothing to look down on either...

True, true. I'm just wondering that if for the cost of getting everything to turbo my ST, would all that money cover getting a 3SGTE? Because if it does, that's where I'm goin' lol

cost of doing a turbo on stock engine adds up quickly!... but then again wouldn't you rebuild a used 3sgte too before putting into your car?.... i'm not putting either option down, just realize either one is time and money.

From what I've heard, the cost of a 7A-FTE build will be close to that of a 3S-GTE swap, unless you collect parts at low prices over a long amount of time. Bottom line with the 7A-FTE is that you're limited more or less to 240ish HP on stock internals, whereas the 3S-GTE will get you 250-260 out of the box, for a 3rd gen that is.
So as far as using logic, the 3S is the way to go...but if you find that the 3S is too common or you don't want to swap, then the 7A-FTE is a very good option.

Oh I find the 3S all too common, but why wouldn't it be?? It's a beast motor for our Celicas and the MKII MR2's. I think if I end up saving up that much money, I'll get me a 3S. Thanks to everyone.

since i have seen the internals of the 7A, i dont see any reason why it cant support 300 crank HP or roughly 250 to the wheels. the rods are actually beefier than those of the 1ZZ-FE and i know those can make 300 to the wheels. turboing the 7A will be super easy, in fact im going to turbo Erynn's car pretty soon. i think the largest obsticle will be tuning. im not very happy with the AEM FIC right now so it might be Emanage city.

Turboing the 7a is very easy to do, I turbo'd mine back in the day running 10psi along with a 75 shot of nitrous. It was a quick car and definitly fun to drive. I was able to turbo it for right around $1500, cheaper than doing the 3sgte swap. But then again its all about your power goals. I was also running stock motor!

Would you mind telling me what kind of turbo you used, and your BHP and WHP at what PSI? I assume from your profile that you're using stock injectors and don't have a boost gauge, anything else that you might have not bought that would usually be done?

7a is fine on low boost with a simple set up and will cost less than a 3sgte
you always run the risk of buying a bad 3sgte or having to replace alot of parts to get it to run reliable
in short dollar for dollar IF you want a little more power 7afte is the way to go IF you are starting with a 7afe
sidenote sell your car and buy a 6gc with a 3sgte in it there are a few on here for sell and thats the cheapest way IMHO
