I think they left it out because they want to combine (as best as possible) those three cars into the ft-86. The legendary car enthusiast status of the MKIV, the drifting power of the AE86 and the name? of the Celica? Or just the fact that it was really powerful for 4 cylinders. But uh... yeah... uh... yeah.
Awesome-tude picture.

BANNED. for life, you moron.
Is the FT-86 even going to be that good? I have yet to hear some real stuff about it. Seems everyone is just protecting the Toyota name by the things they say regarding it. But it's specs vs the other cars out there and how far you can take it is my question. If it is going to be something that isn't that good that you can make into WHOA! Then I might get it. If not... Then whatever...
And the AE86 needs to go... Was never a powerhouse like the MR2 SW20 was/is (even J-spec best model was better than then Supra RZ on 1/4 time stock vs stock).

^ From what I've read (don't know if this will make it into production), they're stuffing a 170-HP flat-four into it. But power doesn't matter...what does matter is that it's an FR setup and more specifically, FMR, like an MX-5. Which means balance and handling should be amazing.

No Power matters... That's why the MR-S = Garbage stock vs just buying a Celica GT-S.... In this age where you got cheap ass camaros coming out with a lot of HP, Nissan still putting out high HP power cars, AWD Mitsu's and Subies... You need power. Screw the handling.
And I am going to apologize ahead of time if I say anything dumb... I had a really really bad day at work that is going to continue until people take the stick our their arse.... I am drunk...

This is subjective, but still...we all know we love our Celicas, but at the end of the day they're still understeering FWD cars no matter if a 3S is stuffed in or not. Power can be fixed (and Toyota will, with a 230 HP turbo model to be debuted later), but chassis and basic handling characteristics cannot.

Exactly! It needs at least 250 to somewhat stay in the game of todays cars... ESPECIALLY if it is going to be turbo charged... Of not, then yeah, 200 isn't bad, but it isn't impressive either... 250 or BUST!

I have seen a lot of reports of a lot of different numbers. some say, still 150 hp, some say 250 N/A. Mostly people are saying that if they can't top the 3s Redtop then don't bother putting it out.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100That's a reasonable guess about what it may be.

apparently they changed their minds there is going to be a top spec turbo version but also sumat like a 170bhp N/A version,
the car is supposed to a lightweight so even with only 170bhp it should out perform a G6 3S-GE or even a G7 VVTL-i,
its coming in at under £20000
the styling will change slightly for safety/collision aspects,
i'm going to assume that most of the car will be plastic
Yeah, we'll have to wait to see the final specs, but for me to consider buying one, it would need to be quicker than my TT, which started at 225 and is now 265.
Should be easily achievable....

i wonder if a 2jz will fit in there

I think what you guys might be missing is that Toyota is filling a niche by basically creating a coupe version of the MX-5, should the current rumored specifications be correct. I, for one, hope then that it won't be that powerful. The less I see on the road, the better it is for me...I'd rather not have this turn into the new tC.

Thank you!!! I hate when everybody thinks the ae-86 is the best thing EVER... there not, stock there slow because there econo boxes.
The reason they have those 3 cars is because they are the "Inspiration" for the ft-86. It's going to be another subaru...=Lame

great wall paper! supra <3 the corolla does not fit in with that set up

should of been a mr2 or a 7gc
oh yea on that FT-86 i heard as well that there will be a n/a model with about 170 hp and a turbo model with around 280, but this is just here say. whatever it is, I'm sure it will be awesome and I plan to get one vs a supra depending on how it drives.

Now that is EXACTLY what we are all afraid of. I hope to God that is not what Toyota is planning, because I will submit very angry letters (seems like the only sensible American thing to do, right?)

I side with ya on that.
Also there are a multitude of threads all over the internet trying to guess what the new name will be, but as far as I know no one ever dare mention the name Scion whilst speaking of the FT-86. Do we have a FT-86 naming thread here?

http://www.insideline.com/scion/tc/2011/20...-auto-show.htmlThat's not what we are talking about. We are talking about a Scion TC but for the Toyota Line. Essentially having the same car is what we mean. Something no manly man feels good about driving, knowing that when we seen one, we are hoping to see a hot chick inside as expected.
