Can I use this bendable piping for my cat back? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #73227 32 posts Started by mgnt232
So yeah no where around me will bend above the axle at the stupid angle our cars have. But anyway I found this ►►found here◄◄
When I was at my local auto store, and was wondering, can I just use this stupid universal thing, and route it the way my stock goes? Would only be using it to go above the axle (not the whole 5-6ft section). and then use real stainless 2.25 from the cat and res to this bendable pipe. Will it work? and still make the flow better?
thanks anyone smile.gif

A bit confused by some of the wording. I am surprised that no one did any crimp bending for your new set up. Ive never heard of any muffler shops not doing that. If your asking about running the pipes "under-axle" vs "over-axle" most people on here probably have under (Im just guessing though)

Sorry I knew that would be a little confusing, I put up pics, of where my exhaust currently goes, and where I want it to go, because no where around me will bend the pipe? for whatever reason.

Did you even TRY using the search function? Or look through the exhaust thread?

And don't bump your thread more than once a day. 30 minutes is hardly enough time to justify needing to bump your thread.

This was the exhaust system I had installed on the Yelli Celi. 2.5" under-axle to a Vibrant Performance muffler. Sounded great, but that might have been the 20V. biggrin.gif

won't the suspension links hit when the wheel drops all the way, such as on a lift?

thats basically what I was asking, I just want to know can I do this? without worrying about it hitting?
thanks

IF you do this and go over a speed bump I'd say you will leave it behind you
I miss that car.....

maybe that's why the pipe is dented...?

-LukeMy Flickr
No, when the car goes on the lift they unbolt the exhaust. The dents are simply where they bent the piping.

Never bottomed out. Never had the suspension hit. No problems. Just ask the shop to route the piping while the car is on the ground.

That first pic looks like an O2 sensor that sits downstream for my GT.

yeah the first pic, is what I could buy to replace the second pic (my downstream o2)
I dont think my stock downstream comes apart, which means I have to spend another $50 on that new o2 frown.gif

Yeah but you've got the SP2. So um.....yeah. Lucky!

OK, by upstream and downstream I mean this. I have a GT (which has 2 O2 sensors), one located before the cat (the one that's part of the manifold) and one that's located after. Hence "up"stream and "down"stream.
I'm not too sure how it works on an ST (being that I don't have one, and its been forever since I've been under one). I know somewhere on here is some info about this. But as far as my set up goes. I'm only running my upstream O2 sensor (like what you have in your 2nd pic). I've got a downstream but never installed it as the only time I've popped a code was when I was real low on fuel and gunned it.
yeah the 2nd pic, is of my 2nd o2 sensor (after the prefcat, manifold)
My first and second are both like this, but mine has been welded together (not sure y, or if this is how all of them are) But anyway I bought the first pic, and now I just have to wait for it to arrive, and do the non-fouler.
So yours doesnt throw a code with only 1 o2 sensor? Is your other on plugged in still, and just kinda dangling?

thanks for any info, as I want to install the headers tuesday when they arrive, but the o2 sensor wont arrive until fri-sat, and dont want to mess up my car by only running one o2 sensor(not sure if any damage can really be done)

I disconnected it, but bought another O2 sensor to wire in just in case.
you don't do the non-fouler trick to the primary, only the one after the cat you're eliminating. the non fouler simply spaces the sensor out of the exhaust stream so it sees smaller sample and smaller changes. you can emulate that with other methods.

I dont need to have the downstream o2 sensor?

what you need to know is here in the ebay header thread and other threads. read through them.

try this and see if it works. Idk because I just got my header the other day too and gonna have to tackle this problem as well. smile.gif

I think I have it all figured out, just have to have them arrive on time tomorrow, and hope the weather is not too bad. Should have them installed tomorrow, with only the first o2 sensor. Apparently the car will be fine, with only the first one? idk i'm going to try it, and the o2 comes hopefully friday (everything I order is always from freakin cali! and I live in NY frown.gif )
I will post as I install-

ST's have the same setup. I also have upstream/downstream fuel sensors that I have to deal with when I get my header.

that is a repair kit. that is no replacement for an actual exhaust pipe.

this shows my set up running "over the axle" and that's with 2.5" piping.
It can definitely be done. I guess I've just got a really good exhaust guy.

P.S. stop editing your original post to ask different questions. it makes it really tough to read through this thread and figure out what you are asking about and what's been answered.

lol thanks I guess I just got to go out more of the 40mile radius I have gone to find a good exhaust place. thanks

(and when I post a bunch of different questions people freak out lol, sorry if its confusing)

The reason I made a remark once was because you made a few different threads just concerning a body kit; instead of making a few threads concerning the same question, it's easier for you to post questions in one thread. I thought you'd realize that you could post a new question at the end of the thread, instead of going back to edit your first post, because that is confusing. Just a heads-up. thumbsup.gif

ah I see now lol.
Ok well then new question is it safe to just use one o2 sensor (the first (upstream) one) and just leave the downstream one dangling? It will only be for a few days until I get the new o2 sensor, that I can thread into a new bung.

I did. With the O2 sensor. Is that what were talking about now?
