lowerin da celli - 6G Celicas Forums

ok i tried lowerin my car twice first i used some eibachlowering springs and for some reason they would get compressed too much and they would literely hit each other on every bump and now i bought some coilovers from ebay and they do da same thing but worse im wondering is it that im usin da wromg type of stuff or is that just normal help me out ppl?
Try Megan racing springs... i believe they are 1.75 rear and 1.5 front. check my pic on my profile page and you will see how they sit with 17 inch wheels and 45 series tires. maybe you need new struts? just a thought

the spring is what lowers the car kyb gr2's will be fine also what is your budget get the megan coilover that im pretty sure they are still on sale for 850 i believe
It might be a good idea to ask this question WITH PROPER spelling and grammar in suspension forum.

I'm guessing he's saying that the springs were so compressed in one area they would hit each other on bumps.

if your having a problem with eibach springs, its more than likely a shock, or other problem.
springs almost never fail.
eibach also has a 1 million mile warranty. wink.gif

i've had mine for i dunno, 6 or 7 years with no problems.

Wouldn't installing the spring upside down cause it to compress like he's describing?

A spring is a spring, if you flip it upside down it should retain same tensile strength. Only reason for him to have any kind of problem is, like manny pointed out, a blown shock but most likely he installed springs from a different car that is marginally lighter than what celica weighs. I am sure there is a... ohh I dont know a kia or something that weighs 1000lbs less and has similar diameter springs. That would explain why spring would bottom out.

Unless....

He is doing 300ft long jumps in a rally at which point spring would definitely bottom out. In rally they use shock and strut systems that costs thousands of dollars a piece to withstand that kind of abuse.

DA SHOCKS WERE BRAND NEW TOO AND IT STILL HIT GOOD THING I GOT DA MONEY BAK...I TRIED TO GET SOME KYB'S AND THEY WERE WAY DIFERENT IT WAS JUST DA STRUT CARTRIDGE

Now, with properly installed springs and struts, this shouldn't be happening. Like others said, the springs aren't to blame - it's the struts. Just know that the cartridges, which are a shock insert, ONLY work for the front, NOT the rear. Maybe you messed up there, as KYB only makes a full strut assembly for the rear.

Lastly, what are your driving habits? You didn't mention when the springs compress fully. If you're going over a speed bump at considerable speed, then they could compress like this, although it's still unlikely.

i dont have piks but i mean da spring would compress as soon as i would put da car down so any little bump itwould hit and like i said da struts were bran new i put the, on when i bough da springs

Um Swiss...that's not exactly true as KYB does make front struts that are sealed; I bought 2 as my '99 has Sport Suspension - sealed struts. And it's quite possible what he's saying is true because my Sportlines are compressed like he's describing but I only get clunking on the driver's side which I think I installed incorrectly. I'll know more this weekend when I pull the front driver strut setup and redo it.

Also, I bought 4 brand new struts boots and bumpstops, new 4.0782 Sportline spring kit, and new upper and lower seat insulators. The only things I didn't change were my strut mounts.

I'll get pictures this weekend too.

I mean that KYB only makes inserts for the front, not that they make only inserts for the front...capiche? wink.gif I have four full replacement struts.

And I do have the same clunk on the driver's side, let me know what you find. I'm thinking it's the top mount not being aligned correctly, but when I change my wheels I'll check the spring itself for play.
