My motor seems to be burning oil - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #73478 18 posts Started by HectortheRican
I filled it up to where the oil level was about 3/4 to the full line about 2-3 weeks ago and now, the oil level is about 1/4 to the low line. That's half a quart in 2-3 weeks. Is that normal??

So from what I took from this, cleaning the ring lands and replacing the valve guide seals should do the trick? what if I don't do that and my motor just continues burning oil and I just add oil as needed. Will that hurt the motor?

Same here.

169,000 original miles engine. I add 1 quart at around 2000 miles after oil change.

I've been told it is OK.

But I really do want a solution to this.

Mine only has 89,000 original miles, that's why it's got me worried.

7afe is known to burn oil... just the way the engine is... if you keep refilling it, not too much damage can occur, your 02 sensor might go bad a little quicker than normal, cat will have less life as well... nothing too dramatic, fixing involves a full engine rebuild

usually a valve seal issue on the toyota engines as they age.

Is this pricey to fix?

Weird. My 7A-FE never burned oil, and my sisters 4A-FE also doesn't burn oil. Mine has 48,000 miles and she's at 70,000, so I guess this happens to higher-mileage engines then. But it shouldn't happen so early, unless the engine gets abused and doesn't get properly mantained.

swiss your car is still a baby, mine has 164xxx miles on it, this is why mine burns oil, and oobe, your car is also still a baby so you shouldnt have these problems

Its important to not rev the 7A-FE as it is cold. If you drive like an ass, the engine will at last burn oil like that.

So why is it burning oil?

Well, the main problem is the oil rings on the pistons. These will stick, and not work, which make the oil come through to the top, and get burned. The valve seals is known to make the oil burn too, but I really think the oil rings is the main problem.

Did the rebuild on mine, and it is expensive. Especially here in Norway... But it is totally worth it, and my engine have never burned oil since i did it. (1 1/2 year ago)

You can do the rebuild yourself, to save some cash.

Good luck though! smile.gif

I was told exactly that, oil rings and valve seals. I just don't have the experience to do it myself kindasad.gif But I have a few friends that build up 240's to drift all the time, so they can possibly help. Thanks guys!

happens a lot in older engines or high mileage ones. usually the culprit is valve seals. Like pit said, something that people usually don't worry about mostly because it does not cause too much damage and its a lot to rebuild anyways.
