so i picked up a so called 96 camry 5s motor and after i removed the pan i see a weird ass setup with the crank. it looks as if there are gears on the balancing part of the crank. my 98 5s motor does not have this. the 98 5s pan has a oil baffle plate and has my bung for the oil return line on the turbo setup. the 96 camry motor lacks a baffle plate to accommodate for the weird ass setup with the crank...wtf is that thing for. my car is a 96 and i don't remember if it had that weird setup or not.

nevermind.....i found out its the balance shaft....found on 92-96 camry's
does anyone know if the larger camry oil pan with the balancer setup will hit the cross member on the celica?
can you post pics of this balancer? i have not seen it before. i though celica = camry on the 5S in the mid 90's

well i just pulled the balancer off and tapped the oil feed passage with 8mm x1.25. that way i can use my original pan with the return line bung welded on. plus i don't wanna spend 75 bucks for a new oil pan cuz the camry one got dented. thanks for the info bmj
how is the vibration any noticeable difference.
