I see how to put in 6.5" and to put 8" subs but are there any speakers i can buy without having to cut or mod anything just to replace my blown door speakers. I was looking at these http://www.bizbooz.com/pyle-plg8-3-8-400-w...y-speakers.html will they fit stock with no modding or is modding inevitable to get front speakers in a 6g

6.5 in speakers will fit fine

but will they fit fine having to cut the old speaker up and drilling new holes ( http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=57246 )or like having to buy or build an adapter plate or will they just screw right in. what is the size of the actual stock speaker i have seen 6.5" and i have seen 8" does the speaker vary from car to car. i just want something that will just screw right into the stock bracket for now, i have one working speaker in the car.

the stock speaker size is 6.5 it will screw right in no need to mod anything if u see someone with 8 in is because they probably put a sub

nice ... at least the best buy there even had specs. the best buy here told me i hve 6.5's in the rear panels and that i dont have front speakers. i argued that i did have front speakers for a minute then realized that time would have been better off spent arguing with a random zoo animal with the same level of understanding

not that i recomend it, But you can mount the 6.5's using only one screw if you dont wanna take Matt's thread seriously.

It's a damn good thing to mod the stock brackets though. I fully endorse that. Take a drill, a few self taping screws, and call it a day.

? so the 6.5" dont bolt right up? i just purchased these http://soundstormlab.com/main/517 am i gonnna have to mod the brackets to fit or will they just screw into original bracket (with more then 1 screw) i dont have a drill or a dremel atm and i just wanted sound out my ride before i get serious in the future mods.

what i did for a temp solution (while i was grinding and painting my brackets.) was to apply (iirc) i managed to get 2 screws into it to hold it to the door. it sounded fine at that time and i used that method for about 3-4days. It' would have held for as long as i left it there, but i prefer the higher sound quality from having the speaker completely stabilized.

depending on the speakers you choose, then you may only be able to get one screw in. But if you roll it so that the weight of the remainder of the brackt is on the door frame, then i'll be fine.

no, 6.5" will not bolt right up.

Our speakers are 6.5 (diaphragm)- within an 8" frame.

So for audio purposes we have 6.5
For fitture purposes, we have 8

EDIT:
again, I reccomend that you pony up the 12 dollars to buy a cheap power drill, then spend the 97cents on a pack of self tapping steel screws. #8 / 1 Inch will do the trick without any damage to your new speaker. it takes 2 min after the speaker is out. The stock speakers are garbage anyway, just do the conversion man. Then you'll never have this problem again!

DMAN is right. they sell adaptor plates on ebay for 10-20$ i believe. makes ir easier

^^^ yeah you could do that too.

I preferred to save the money as i have a drill (and misc. hardware) laying around at all times.

Do as you please sir, you've now got 3 options.

thanks for the help everyone brackets arrived today and the speakers yesterday. i installed them today everything went very smooth. the SSL component's i bought sound really good for the extreme cheap price of $28 from buy.com i might get a matching pair for the rear next week
