i have a set of tanabe df210 springs. the instructions say to cut the bump rubber. what exactly is that? does it effect ride height, because my car doesn't look like it has a 2.2 inch drop right now. thanks.

It's the small black rubber cylinder with a hole in the middle that you put the shaft of the strut through, it's used to keep the strut from bottoming out. It doesn't affect ride height, only how far the strut can compress when you go over a bump before hitting the bump stop. IIRC there were a few people that said the Tanabe's didn't give them the claimed 2.2" of drop, but give them a try for a while to let them settle to say for sure.

^^^^ Bump stops looks like that I was told to never cut that piece unless you know what you were doing supposedly your suppose to cut that if you lower your car more then 1.5 its their to keep your suspension from bottoming out. I'm sure you know that the springs needs to be broken in too right ?? That's why it doesn't look like its a 2.2 drop yet. I'm dropped 1.8 on all 4 corners and I didn't cut my bump stops no problems here either.

is it true though that springs settle? i have heard that they do and don't settle. how long does this typically take.

^ One to three weeks, typically. Mine were settled after two.

Damn, that looks ridiculously high...like stock height. If there was no lowering at all between installation and stock (hard for you to tell because you came from coils), then there's something wrong. Springs will only settle about half an inch at most, not entire inches.

I've always cut my bump stops in half. Works fine. But looks like it hasn't fully settle yet. Give it another week. And if what people are saying is true about tanabe springs, then ill just get coilovers. Don't want anything less than 1.8".

haha thanks. i don't like the gap between the fenders. i'm running 16 inch celica gts rims 205/50. might step up to 17's sometimes. still not really sure about the whole spring settling thing... but thats to all that helped. i hope others find this info useful as well.

haha i had a set of used ksport coils... hated them apparently the pillow mounts were blown and there was some cross threading. i might go back to coils some day. idk i am indecisive! lol
