well after a long and greuling day i managed
to get some fluid for my hoist and get it all hooked up and pulled out!
starting either first thing tomorrow or first thing friday, i'll start
pulling the 7a out of the 97, then the real madness shall begin !!! (=
i know i can't pull it off as good as some of you guys, but i figured this being my
first engine pull and what not i'd give it a try

the big guy is mi padre, i couldn't get the engine/tranny out by myself, and i needed him to
pry on it a little bit... thats why he is trying to show off his so called muscles, but whatever haha,

while i pull the engine/tranny from the 97. i'm wondering how long its going to take pulling it and

first i'm going to give a thanks to Manny, Njccmd, and Stephen.
for some great help and advice.
Instead of giving you a story i'll just give you the pictures first!
Good news, i got the bad engine out, the 5 speed tranny and all its components off,
then i got the good engine in the garage, took the auto tranny and all of that jive off,
and started getting all the accessories off so i can then switch over all the newer accessories
so they will work good with the 97s wiring.
i have to work 3-11 tomorrow but i'll try to head to my house around 11 am so i can work
about 3 more hours on it and get some more progress done and show you guys some more
pictures!

Thanks! i always enjoy looking at threads with pictures, so i try and do the best i can.. a couple people on here told me they couldn't believe how good i was doing on this project on my own never having had any experience with this before, but with all the help on here, its like i've been a mechanic for 5 years! haha
but as to the colors, i agree. i'm keeping everything black and silver. the block will be black, along with all the trim, plastics, lids, etc... the valve cover, heat shield, alternator, starter, intake, will all be silver.
i'm looking into ordering all new brand new black hoses depending on whit it will cost!

alot of people get intimidated by cars since there seems to be a billion things to learn. But once you get into it you realize that there is just a collection of basic systems to understand. And once you understand those, all the different combinations and approaches used by the oem's boils down to common sense. To this day I'm amazed at how ppl let themselves get ripped off at shops. . .

ha yeah, i know it would of cost a ton of money to get the engine rebuilt at a shop, so i figured why not throw in the good running engine i already have, and save myself a bunch of money i could spend on future mods and just rebuild it myself and swap it back in when this engine goes!

Thinking about giving up and just posting on craigslist as a project for like 1200 bucks
i have everything put back together and half way in the car, but the motor mounts aren't lining up correctly for some reason. but i'm thinking for 1200 bucks somebody should buy it with all the extras maybe. i hope so at least . . i mean its coming with a running engine, good tranny and like new clutch.
put alot of work into it but can't finish it... i'm very upset with it and need to get a car before winter.... i had a fun time on the forum while it lasted....
i'll miss you guys.

yes, 7a engine. is put back together to the tranny and is half way put back in the car but the mounts aren't lining up. don't know why.

you have install the dirvers side first then the passenger. then the rear then the front. In that order its easy.
you tighten them up in that order too. it worked for me

thats really all the simpler it is? i thought the mounts were different from the different years or something? could the problem of just been because i was going driver side, then front ? thats why they weren't lining up?

if you have both years mounts, then compare.
its easy to star with the sides so that engine lines up. if you tighten the front and side, then you dont have wiggle room. The rear motor mount is a beyotch, and you need a lot of wiggle, thats why the front is the last one to put.
to put the rear mount youneed to push the engine slighty up to the rear to be able to even put it in....
its a pain..

The front and rear mounts dont actually support the engine, dont try and get those on before the others. The front and rear just stop the engine from rotating back and forth. The mounts may be different, but i couldn't be sure.
Examples-
My car is a 94, engine from a 95 lined up fine (its no cake walk to get everything in).
But also my car is a 94, but Jims subframe from a 95 didnt all line up.
if you still have all the mounts, just look at them closely lol. Youve come this far... why not do a little extra. Or have a mechanic look at it. A new car is much more money than putting the finishing touches on a perfectly good car (imo)
