the first cat is the one right after the exhaust manifold generally its replaces by headers than the second one is after the downpipe after the second o2 sensor after that ur catback exhaust should starte catback means after the catalytic converter axle back is well after the axle ... there is no cat in ur muffler ive never heard of that

Gotcha, thanks. Do you know where I can get a good cat, like performance wise?

Gotcha, thanks. Do you know where I can get a good cat, like performance wise?


i would just google high flow cat... if not im sure magnaflow has some

Im not an expert by all means lol. But i dont think the cat is going to give you much of a performance boost. I think with a stock ST the exhaust is not really all that "restricted". I would grab a set of headers if you dont have already. Eliminates first cat and like 20-30 pounds of old exhaust manifold.
But if you are looking, i'd say magnaflow. I was originally going to get one with my cat back, but was told, it really wont do much of anything.
I've spilt my heart into this car :) And I don't ever plan to stop- 6GC for Life ->Semper Fi<1994 Cupra :p 3sgte1995 Celica ST DD1969 Chevelle SSalllll balls. P2 approved!

there is no performance from a cat its restrictive a high flow cat is not as restrictive but is still good for emissions and since he is getting headers soon and they delete the main cat im assumning he wants a high flow cat for that reason

Exactly. I'll be getting headers soon and the previous owner welded the 2nd cat to the downpipe. What a noob. So now I need to spend extra money on a cat.

yeah make sure u put ur o2 sensor after the cat so u dont get any cel's

you dont even need the second o2, you can unhook it, or just leave it dangle it doesnt matter. Or at least I have never had a problem, or you can get a bung welded on and hallow out non-foulers.
But ive had mine just dangling and only got a CEL once in 5-6 month, and i was flooring it on E.

Okay guys, on that link, will the very first Magnaflow fit? Also, another question. Could I just keep the stock exhaust manifold with the cat welded on, put in a header with no cat, then when it's time for inspection, swap out exhaust? Is that a good idea or no

no headers replace ur exhaust manifold and your main cat u cant have both man lol or u just didnt phrase dat right and as for inspection i dont have to worry about emissions since my car is a 95 dont know about down there in texas

Legally you're not allowed to remove the cat from it's stock position. Most exhaust shops, at least in Ohio, wont touch a cars exhaust system if it's been removed. If you're getting headers on your st I wouldn't worry about getting a high flow cat to replace the stock. I would guess you wouldn't pass an emissions test anyway with one.

But I need a new one. The old one is welded on.
