To start with do you need a whole new antenna or just the mast? If the motor is still running and it's just the mast not going up and down, you only need a new mast.
just get a small non-motorized antenna. I got a small black one for mine and it came with a signal boost, it works great!
you can get them at autozone or advanced auto

well when removing mine i started by unscrewing the chrome inlet thingy on the outer part of the mast, it has 4 grooves in a cross section, i used a small needle noose pliers and i wrapped my hand around the base of the antenna so i wouldn't scratch the paint in case i slipped. for the trunk you'll have to remove the main back trim piece and the driver side trim piece, theres a single bolt holding the antenna in place ounce u get it out u can just unplug everything connected to the power antenna. thats how i got mine out
I guess the pliers are a good idea, depending on how "hard" its on there. Mine I used a flat head and put it in on of the grooves, and had to beeat on it for like 10 mins (if your very careful you wont chip any paint, but its at your own risk). there is an antenna removal tool at autozone, but $10 vs. 10 mins with a flat head?
and there are just a few bolts, or maybe one, on the inside under the plastic. pretty easy to do

yeah mine was pretty hard on there and it took a good 8 or so minutes unwinding the damn thing, overall though i would say the chrome piece is the hardest part to deal with really
