Mounts made up (unfortunately the process took forever long), I'll take better pics of how I did it later. Belt obv doesnt go like that, I was just using the old one to get the alignment right.

It sounds awesome, but it looks really slow compared even with a 3S-GE. frown.gif

If it's like that with a supercharger, I hate to imagine what it's like 7A-FE in naturally aspirated mode frown.gif

Yea the 7a is pretty slow. The blower on that car looks like it could be a sc12 or 14, which would be fairly inefficient compared to the vortech ... I really don't know what to expect. I'm sure it wont be a rocket, but it should make some decent torque.
Keep on, bro. Our cars are unique. It's not about power. It's about being different. The 7A is a very fun engine when boosted. It might not offer cheap thrills like stronger engines but it's VERY enjoyable.

I got an idler pulley and found the right belt length, so the supercharger side of the project is pretty much done. The alternator on the other hand has been a bit of a challenge. I made a bracket and had it mounted to the rear of the engine, then realized it's almost impossible to tension the belt enough with it back there to make sure the water pump will be spinning and I'm not about to risk problems with that. It looks like the best case scenario is mounting the alternator back on the front side, but turned around backwards. I also was super happy when the s****y brass Vortech oil feed snapped on me when I tightened it, so now I need a stainless one for another $55. BS if you ask me. Even better, I had to pull the damn supercharger apart to get the broken one out.

I had to put the car back together so my wife could take the Genesis to FL and I wanted to make last weekends meet in Raleigh, so here's a little pic of my temporary DD setup. Once we're back from vacation, end of the month, I'll work on finishing this.

do the ebay headers get hotter than stock?
It seems to be pretty hot and at least the stock manifold had a heat shield too. I definitely need to do something since the intake for the supercharger is right next to it.

It's really not junk, I wish people would stop making that statement or "it's just a light show" lol. It does exactly what it's designed to do. It's just not sufficient for tuning your car with, which I'm not doing since I have a dyno right down the road to check the a/f ratios once I get the setup completed. If you undersand exactly how it works, it's useful. A lot of gauges could be considered useless, but if you know the car's trends, little changes can be big indicators before things go wrong.

true statement!!!^^^^^ looks good my friend. although its not super fast all that really matters is a unique mod done to a unique car. cool thing about different people is they have different likes and dislikes. and not to mention diff taste in car and diff. ideas. keep up the great work.

Thanks, dedicating this weekend to trying to finish it. Pulled out my A/C and I'm making a new bracket to mount the supercharger. I wasn't happy with trying to relocate the alternator. I'll try to take a bunch of pics as I go at it.
So like I said I decided to make a new bracket and ditch my A/C. I spent the whole weekend fabricating crap, but it's almost done. I'm waiting on the silicon couplers for my intake piping and then I'll be able to hook it all up.

First I started with some 3/16 steel. 3/16 only because that's the limit for my fluxcore welder (also why all my welds are ground down)
So I cut up some pieces like so.


Before that (last weekend) I welded up some steel on the A/C bracket so eventaully the supercharger bracket could be welded to that. Yea I could've made it so it bolted to the A/C bracket...but that would've been a real pain.


So after some welding, grinding and more grinding I had something like


Then I welded that up to the A/C bracket after a lot of measuring and in and out of the car crap


Then I messed around added another piece to the bracket for more stability since it's only 3/16" I figured better safe than sorry. The picture is crappy and doesnt really do justice of the time it took, but w/e.


Then after that I started make up piping. 2.5" Hooker J pipes...cut..weld...grind..cut..weld..grind..grind..grind. I also welded up my BOV flange, but I didnt take pics. It's not alumium its mild steel, but looks shiny from hitting it with a 120grit pad on my grinder.



I installed the Wlabro pump like a month ago...and I think I have the right length belt now after realizing the one I got yesterday was too long. So once I get the couplers I just have to put everything in, connect the oil lines, which are ready to go, and reinstall the 2bar map and injectors.
Vortech charged 7afe alive and crusining. It's running suprising well for noy having any tuning. I expected it to idle like ****, but it's fine. I don't know where I'm going to be with boost yet as I've taken it pretty easy today. How do most people insert their IAT's into their piping? I drilled a hole and insert the gromet then the IAT and RTV'd the whole thing...but is there another option? Sucks that it's made of plastic. I'll try to get a vid up today :-)

Weld in bung in the piping. Atleast thats what I did.

Thanks, I took a vid but I can't find my cord for my video camera so at the moment I can't upload it. I have a meeting with the dyno on Wednesday. Looks like I'm around 5-7 lbs of boost right now..and I don't know if there are any leaks or if my gauge is accurate, so I'm pumped to see what it puts down, what the a/f read out is, and what my boost is at.

OK got this thing on the dyno today. Numbers aren't incredible or anything (not that I expected they would be) but considering my boost is so low I'm pretty happy. I have a lot of room to grow with smaller supercharger pulleys. Also, remember I'm running 315cc injectors, 2bar map, walbro, and absolutely no tuning or intercooler.

Thats about what id expect without an intercooler or tuning.
can you clock the outlet so it points down and run the ic pipe down low to get away from the header?
I think water/meth injection would work wonders for ya, especially since your running no ic, and how close that pipe is to the header.
keep learning and progressing, next thing I would invest in would be a basic water/meth injection kit, and a used safcII, then get on a dyno again, and do some tuning.
i wouldn't be surprised to see ya gain 20whp or more with those 2 mods, or an ic and safcII

Looking at the chart again, your,not really making any significant boost till almost 4rpm, which is way after the tq peak for the 7afe (iirc its something like 2800rpm)
would a smaller pully make boost sooner, or would you need a smaller charger, similar to turbo exhaust housing sizing?

I can clock it but I'm not sure about how far. I'll look into that. I do have header wrap on it at the moment tho, but yea it's realy close. I'll probably be looking into an intercooler. A smaller pulley should bring it in sooner I think. It's proportional to RPM, so I can't see why it wouldn't come in sooner since it will be spinning faster at a lower engine RPM. I do think it's a little large though, considering that's almost 50 flywheel hp on ~5lbs, so I think getting it spinning quicker will help. It's also hard to see on that graph but I must've had some belt slip b/c boost is bouncing in the low r's as well. On most of the runs boost was right between 4.5-5. Thanks for the input Manny.
I switched to a 2.62" pulley today from a 3.25" and it definitely made a difference. I can't tell what the boost tops at yet, it's really hard to tell b/c it goes up so fast between 4k and 6k RPM. Next I just need to decide on something to tune with and get an intercooler.

What's the main difference between the apexi SAFC and SAFC2...and is it worth it or should I get something like the Split Second PSC1?
so its basically like a stock 5s, apart from torque, thats ok though. What costs have you run so far?

It's not really like a stock 5s, that whp not flywheel, if anything at that boost it was about on track with a 20v. I think Coomer's car dyno'd a 130whp. Anyway, cost a few grand. I stopped keeping track and I did a lot of other things at the same time, like interior, coilovers etc...so I'm not sure the exact cost. I spent $700 on the Vortech new from ebay. No I didn't spend $2300 on it lol. The whole reason I did it is because I got lucky and got a deal on it. BTW that dyno run is just a starting point, I'd ike to get about 200-210hp (flyhweel) out of it.
Just re-read the entire thread AJ and you have done some great work. Glad to see you made it to the dyno and numbers are impressive compared to a stock 7A - good gains. Can't wait to see the car in person in August!

I like this, its different.
As you know getting that pipe a bit of distance from the headers would be good, then water injection or a fmic would help.
Would be a sh!t load different to drive, nice and torquey compared to stock.

it actually looks like the stock tune is really nice, too. at about 12.5-13:1 the whole time. The 7a likes to run rich WOT so it worked out for u here
