i was wondering what you usually use to clean your engine bay? including those parts where your hand cant reach? or should i cover electric parts and just pressure clean it?

spray this, let it sit for a minute or 2 and hose away


I acutally did mine with simple green and no water

sprayed simple green everywhere and started drying everything with a towel, it came out perfect, and that's how I clean my engine bay ever since.

Someone on here gave me a step by step on how to do it, but its on my home computer. will post it up when i get home in the morning. but yeah culp is right. simple green or that purple stuff is great. also using condoms (if youre a player or unlucky and have plenty layin around ) or baloons work great to cover up electrics.

I honestly wouldn't worry about covering up electrics unles you

1. Are using a pressure washer
2. Have some ghetto-fabulous exposed wiring

I detailed cars for over 2 years and we would soak the whole bay in a de-greasing soap, then power wash the bay down (holding the wand at least 3 feet away, don't want too much pressue in there). The only car that ever gave us any issues was a VW Bug got some water in the spark plug tubes but that turned out to be a whole separate problem.

wow im glad u said that! i been overly careful about washing the engine bay the few times i did it. but there's no motor in there now so after you said that im REALLY gonna go balls oWt!

i bought this because i like made for TV stuff lol (and the store is near my house)

Yeah, well think of it this way too. Your engine is exposed to the elements at all times. The hood isn't exactly sealed closed, plus the bottom is wide open to ground water, etc other than what the plastic shield blocks. Electronics are made to get wet, just don't go hosing them off at 1200psi.

But yes, glad to make that a bit more clear

*EDIT* oh and yeah that made for TV wand would be perfect for it.

i've always gone to the car wash, soaked the engine bay down with the "tire cleaner/degreaser" that they have, then spray all the wheels with it, then rinse the engine bay with the "wax." immediately after that, i soak the whole bay down in armor all (DO NOT wipe/rise it off), close the hood, and proceed to wash the rest of the car. works great every time, and it comes out super clean.

be mindful of the dizzy though.. too much pressure there will make it misfire until it dries up. no biggie, you just temporarily lose 25% of your power

been there done that... just yesterday actually... engine sputters and bogs and doesnt want to move! Check engine light came on as well... Hasnt gone away yet! is that normal????

yup, you can pull the distributor cap off and dry it off, and dry the distributor with a hair dryer or somthing.

and further more.... usin that purple power etc i found to be helpful but a waste of time imo.

i sprayed this on it and got some OUTSTANDING results in my engine bay!

i tried an engine degreaser from walmart on another car the other day, it foamed up and really actually broke down the grease like i have never ever seen before. No amount of "purple power" that i've sprayed has ever done what that stuff did. Im gonna get some for the celica soon.

super-tech brand, yes, the actual walmart brand. ftw.

i could have told you that. all it is doing is making the water come out a smaller opening, much like what your garden sprayer does. you need power behind it
