94-99 GT Front Wheel Bearing Measurements - 6G Celicas Forums

has anyone ever measured the front wheel bearings? or can point me to a link with the specs? mm or inch is fine.
I need a new one, and will get it tomorrow, once I get it, I'll take all the measurements.

why do you need them tho ?

To build a brake setup I'd assume for his killer motor. biggrin.gif
not quite.. its for a custom axle setup.. i think i sorted out the brake setup.. just need to find a few things and order at this point.
I have visitors so it'll take me a few days to get to this, but as soon as I get a new wheel bearing I'll take the measurements.
stupid question, but how do you go about changing the front wheel bearing?

you have to remove the whole spindle then have it pressed out. I personally dont have a press and will prob never own one but i have two shops very close to my house that can press them in and out for me if needed.
hmm what about some kind of bearing driver/race?

I dont understand your question.
I have one out in my shop that I haven't gotten around to putting in. I'll go measure it and post results.

I wouldn't say that a bearing driven couldn't get it out but you would have to swing pretty hard to do it and would probably bend or break something. I just used my ball joint/ujoint press that I bought at harbor freight for $30.

Well it seems that Drive shaft shop cant make me a bearing based on the size of the wheel bearing bore being too small. So I did some searching around and found something that might work. They seated that I need something with a 1.6 bore so I checked the Integra it has a 1.6 bore but too far off, checked the MR2 turbo and still a no go, I checked the Subaru Legacy and it looks like it might just work.

When I compare the two bearings it seems that it might be a slight lose fit but the width is very close and the bore looks good enough to work. But the OD is just a tad bit smaller.

that won't work, the bearing has to be pressed in, meaning, the tolerance is very critical for the performance of the bearing, once the bearing is under pressure ( on the ground and running ) that small difference in diameter will become an issue and you'll go through bearings like nothing, specially at your power level goals and intended use of the car.

The inner races of the timkin bearings i bought come out in two pieces, an inner and outer. If you could swap the inner races from something with the 1.6 bore into the celica outer you'd be golden. Of course the ball bearings and the size of the race would have to match exactly. Long shot and I doubt it will work, just throwing it out as an idea.
yeah.. i am looking for a company who will make custom ones.. I am also going to remove the spindle to see if i can get it opened up to accept another bearing such as the integra one then get it modded to accept a new lock clamp to hold the bearing in place because its wider than the celica one.
there is enough room to bore the knuckle to take a bigger bearing, just keep in mind that, in the case of the integras, you'd then have a 5 x 114.5 bolt patern on the front and different on the back.

also, the front brake disc will need the new bolt pattern as well.
