Topic #77015 10 posts Started by zoik
I saw some time ago one blog of a japanese guy that opened his tail ligths using boiling water. i tried without succes. Do you know if i can ue the oven to do this like some people taking out the lens of the projectors?
Any other solution?
oven does work. be careful and make sure that when you put it back together the seal is good.

r u trying to get rid of the amber part if so id rather just cut it
new project groving up in my head, ill post about it later if done, i have some ideas, but not everything is defined yet
i have a spare set of tailights at home(not in so good shape now) so i dont mind testing on them before, but i want to be able to know how to take them apart safely.

So oven should be okay? any temp recomendation?
I was thinking of using windshield glue to seal them again
my friend took his headlights apart in his 7th gen celica. i am guessing that it is a low temp setting.

200* for about a minute then check it. If glue not pliable enough insert for another 30seconds. Re check. Still not? Work in small time increments till its just soft enough. You want as little time in oven as needed.to acconplish goal
I've done it on a number of other units including MR2's and Supra MK3's. I find about 100 deg C in an electric fan oven works fine, but be sure that the unit doesn't touch the shelves or sides. About 10 mins should be about right.

and here's what was inside....

before........

and after.......

The Gen 6's will be more difficult - more like the MR2. I found it helpful using half clothes pegs to act as levers reducing chance of damaging lens compared to using say screwdrivers. You will need to ease a bit a time, putting in the oven several times to warm it up again

Hope that helps
