HID headlights kits - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #77174 31 posts Started by Hanyo
I've looked around for HID kits and the brands range between cheap xentec to philips kits.

The prices of these kits range from $35 to $300.

Why is there a huge price difference. There is the obvious quality of parts and different technology.

But the real question is:

Do the higher end kits give you more light for the same wattage?

Has anyone burnt out a ballast?

To those of you who have aftermarket HID kits installed; what kit did you get and how good has it been so far?

buy some from griffgirl nuff said!
I have HID bulbs in my Lows and Fogs, both are about a year old, they are the cheepies from fleabay and only issue i have is my drivers side fog has a little twich to it

I have 6k 55w DDM Tuning hids on my mr2 (Driving lights and fogs). I've had them for about 6 months with no issues at all. The only reason I would suggest going with them is they provide a lifetime warranty on the bulbs (against color fade) and ballasts. At only $35 for a 35w kit you really cant go wrong. I wouldnt get the 55w kit unless you have a good set of properly aimed projector headlights.
wats tha difference between 55w an 35w ballast?
55 watt will be brighter

aren't 35w crazy bright already?

i read somewhere that a brighter headlight is not always the best choice because it lowers your eyes ability to adjusted to the darkness. For instance: your eyes would adjust to th bright head lights up front but when it comes time to look somewhere where your headlight doesn't shine your eyes would take longer to adjust from the darkness.
lol get the 35w, 55w will be too bright.

35w last alot longer than the 55w, i bought mine from xhidoutlet and i couldnt be happier, customer service is absolutley amazing

i can get HID kits for about 65+shipping any bulb size and colors. (slim ballast)
I've had Griffgirl's HID's and I just bought a set of the $35 HID's from DDM. I will say that Griffgirl's HID's are definitely brighter. No question about that. I never had issues with my eyes adjusting to the darkness. But for $35 plus shipping, and you get a lifetime warranty, the DDM kit is great value. I read a lot of reviews on them before I made the purchase and apparently the guy who owns the company is a great guy. He has the attitude of "Kit doesn't work? Here's an entirely new kit." And the biggest reason that people have to replace their DDM kits is they've gotten into a wreck or something and destroyed their bulbs.

That being said, $35 for DDM lights and $130 for Michelle's lights... There's definitely $100 more light from Michelle's HID's. Well worth the extra money.

When you guys ordered from DDM did you guys also get the HID Harness, Error Code Eliminator or Adaptor cables? or is that not needed for the Celica?

QUOTEwhat hes saying is if you put blue lights in you car youll lose hp.
I have the 6K 55W DDM Tuning kit in my MR2, in conjunction with a set of Pegasus projectors. I REALLY hate the people tossing HID kits into their frosted halogen lights, because you just scatter the light and blind everyone. Hold off on a HID kit until you get some JDM projectors and have done the LHD cutoff mod. Otherwise you're just that dumb ricer kid who doesn't know what he's doing.

I think the error code cables and things like that are more for new cars. Not ours.

Then i must be a "Dumb Ricer Kid" but ya know what? dont care, i have friends drive in front of me and coming towards me, they all say my lights do not bother them, i did it right as much as you can with regular lamps and aimed them lower and im already lowered so its not bad. They will be fine as long as you aim them right

No, they won't. You can't aim scattered light. With projectors you get a clean cutoff. No scattered light. With a HID kit in standard housings - even if you aim them low, you are still spreading light up into people's eyes. Pull up against a flat wall at night and snap some pictures of the light spread.

When you order from DDM, you can get the harness as an optional extra but it costs a little bit more. No need for an error code eliminator or adaptor cables. It's all plug and play.

I got an email about shipping from DDM. It came with the subject "Your order, #(insert order number here,) has been fulfilled." Click the email, get your tracking number and a link from FedEx. I was very leery of DDM at first. HID's that cheap, promising a lifetime warranty, it sounded like a scam right from the start. But I read a lot of reviews and apparently they are a good company. You can also get HID's from DDM for $25, but those only come with a one year warranty.

The Pegasus projectors that I have come with a set of GiSi HID's, which I never heard of. I opted out of the included kit and bought the DDM kit (which everyone was swapping out for anyways) and saved myself a few dollars.

The ballasts are slim, the wiring is clean, nothing but good things to say about my kit.
